Artifacts in firefox

I've noticed an increasing amount of artifacts on desktop lately, specifically firefox. It's normally just the odd one here and there, but if I attempt any crypto currency mining it just goes mental

Like so:

I have a reference MSI 290 at stock. Temperatures are 40~ idle and 80~ at load.

Any ideas?

It looks hardware related to me, if you can stick in a spare hard drive and see if it still does it on a clean install.

I'd say it's a fault with the GPU, do you have another system you can try the card in to rule out the rest of the hardware?

Good thinking, I'm not with it today. I'll try it in the other system and if it still does the same then I guess I'll RMA it if it does.

Are there still any ref 290's left? What will happen with the replacement?

If they don't have a like for like replacment you'll probably get the option of a refund or a similar card with you paying the difference or having it refunded, I think.

That's actually fairly normal when mining. My 7970's did it here and there when they were mining too.

If it's doing it when the card is idle, then perhaps you do have an issue.

iv had a friend asking me about this with his R7 240 and it only appeared to be happening with firefox. we disabled hardware acceleration in FF and it still happened. could it be something to do with AMDs current drivers perhaps? it benched fine

This is what I experienced while mining too and would agree on it being bad if it happens when idle.

You could try setting the compatibility for the miner program so it disabled desktop composition, that way aero is turned off when you start mining too.

So it's an AMD driver bug then? it looks hardware related to me but I can't say I'd be surprised if AMD drivers did cause it, it's not like Firefox is the second most popular browser or anything...

edit: OP mentions that it happens on desktop as well? I'd try underclocking the GPU if so it sounds dodgy to me.

It happens in another system. I am using 14.4. Also, underclocking doesn't help.

I'm wary to RMA it as the problem is only reliably reproduced in firefox with a miner running, desktop and game artifacts are more occasional.
