some games (not many at all) I get red lines on the screen and then the computer freezes, i am guessing it could be the tempreture on the Graphics card

My GPU is a 8800GT overclocked edition

or could it be something else?

thanks

just sitting here ideling it is hitting 75 deg c, the sensor chip on the other hand is hitting 66

im using Tech Power up GPUZ

the fan speed is only at 70% maybe if i oncreased that and then tried it? what program that does that?

i need to give it a whole clean anyway, i shall try that first and check the fan is actually spinning at the same time lol
but if that doesent help best option?

If you clean it up and it's still the same, weigh up the cost of getting a new heatsink, to getting a new graphics card. You could get well get a very good heatsink for it for under £10.

75 degree idle is ridiculous, my 5870 "only" idles at 60 or so (3 monitors).

am i reading the right one? there are several on GPUz

ive cleaned a bit now, (not got time to do the GPU i will do it tommorow night) ive cleaned the CPU heatsink & Fan, and the fan behind it at the back of the case, also added a side fan onto the GPU/CPU
running the GPU fan at MAX , i am now idleing at 59 C
and i havent cleaned the GPU yet!!

Was the inside pretty bad then?

Running the fan at max speed all the time isn't a permanent solution, hopefully giving it a clean will sort it.

When I clean my case and components, I get a new soft and unused paint brush and gently remove the crap/dust then put it on it's side giving it a slight tap or take it outside and clean it with a can of compressed air.

quite bad i suppose, the CPU fan was bad though

I suppose i could take the whole lot out of the case and clean it, but i rather try and avoid that if i can, i keeep meaning to buy some compressed air, should be good at getting to the heatsink

i once had an evga 8800gt ssc and i had to pretty much stick the fan on 100% even with a well cooled case to prevent artifacts forming in wolfenstein 3d.. not the best of cards for cooling unfortunately.. its what led me to buy my next gfx card with a 'uprated' cooler on it

thanks for the info :)

UPDATE

cleaned the GPU and put the fan speed upto 100% and I am now ideling at 50C !

i shall try Batman again, normaly would crash within the first 5 mins

Sounds like its on the way out. As someone else said, running with fan at %100 is not a good solution.

Whats your budget for a new card? The 460 is a steal at the moment and the evga (only one left at time of typing) has a 10 year warranty.

it was the first time i ran it at 100% , just to TEST it for 5-10 mins

thinking of a GTX 460

Just want to give an update

My 8800 GTOC was running around 60+ idle, and probabally going over 80 mark on load

put a GTX 460 in the computer now, and it idles at 31 with fan running hardly at all! and going upto 60+ on load

so i am guessing the 8800 GT was just over heating, games ran fine on it, crysis was no problem at all becuase the temp on the card didnt reach 80, but on the likes of batman it goes too high
