Artificial clouds could help cool 2022 Qatar World Cup

Oh yeah, that's gonna happen.

I also heard they are going to have magic sparkle dragons performing Swan Lake during half time and every male spectator will get his own free clone of Jessica Alba.

So they're looking at a giant floating carbon fibre (?) cloud with a great big helium pocket that cost £300,000 each.

Would a roof and air con be a lot more expensive than that?

possibly require less "roofs" than stadia - so to move the roofs where they are required that day rather than having many more fixed ones is a great idea

(personally think this should have hit the presses on 1st April but you never know :D)

There will be accusations of cheating when the 'cloud' only shades half the pitch....

Why don't they just play the games late in the evening? or is that simply too sensible for the people who gave Qatar the World Cup to begin with?

During the group stage they have to play more than one game a day to fit everything into the schedule. However they could play the games overnight!

In which case everybody would freeze to death.

It sounds like a hair brained scheme, but then stadiums that are air conditioned would be a new idea as well.

They're not poor Qatar, so in the spirit of 'any problem in the world can be beaten to death with a £50 note', I reckon they may well pull this off if they wanted to.

Um... It's not cold in Qatar in summer at night. In fact it's about 30 degrees out.

Remote controlled 'cloud' hovering over 70-80k people in front of the worlds media- seems like a great target for al-Qaeda...
