As i was bored......

Oddly enough I looked through that thread this week.

It's funny how much stick Reyes gets at the moment. Fair enough he hasn't been playing as well as he can but he is still equal top of the most Premiership assists even though he's played less than the others near the top. 8 assists and 3 goals from 20 games (15 of those he was either sub or was subbed) isn't too bad when you consider what Pires (1A/4G in 24) and Ljungberg (4A/0G in 20) have done.

I'd like him to score more goals and stay on his feet more but the Madrid games showed what he can do.

Still can't complain this kid is good, very good and for just £4m more than the cost of Ronaldo it isn't bad business at all, almost an investment if this kid continues to improve as he has done in recent years.

Can't believe he cost more than C. Ronaldo. Ronaldo leaves him standing.

Quote 'The money offered was out of this world, more than Beckham went for' (Seville President)

Thats likely true.

As for value for money of the 10mn plus players i would go;

1. Cisse (21, top scorer in France)
2. Reyes (25mn total)
3. Saha (6mths of goal scoring only, never broke 10 goals a yr, 25)
4. Ronaldo

Wow, thats a bad list. Infact, it's polar opposites.

Fletcher looks very good, a future star I think, though I think
he needs to work on his speed. He just seems a bit slow for me.

Thats still how most of us feel, if he was quicker he'd be a very good player, he always gets closed down too early and loses the ball, he's also very slow at running (especially for a young lad).

Thats exaclty Fletchers problem, he has no pace.

If he got to the ball quicker, and could move with the ball quicker, he would be a sound player.

Watching him and Saha playing football is like watching two baby Giraffes wading through a vat of treacle.

Was eventually showed to be right about Keegan as well looking through more of the threads.
A leach with no ability, only an ability to spend other peoples money and drag a club down.

Didn't quite turn out as we had hoped did Reyes. The guy was absoulte class in Spain though and anyone who saw him there knew he was worth that kind of money but he just hasn't settled.

Though the mancs are in no position to laugh really, your lot spent a lot on Ronaldo and apart from the last couple of months he was absoulte rubbish for your lot this season.

i think reyes played brilliant against real, but in the premiership hasnt been playing so good. think he prefers going down the wing than playing up front

No one is laughing, its just......... some of the comments made about Reyes are ,well, amusing to read now he has been here a couple of years.

I think the guy is really good. When he's in form he's easily the best long ball passer in the club. However he seems to be knocked away too easily and he's been in and out with injuries a lot.

I personally would have liked him to partner Henry up front, though now we have Van Persie, I think he should be in midfield in stead of Pires. The trouble is the games that I have seen him play in that position, he rarely seems to track back...

I think Reyes would be a good foil for Adebayor, so when Henry leaves he should come into his own. However at present I think he doesn't really play well alongside TH... against Madrid we adopted something more akin to a 4-5-1 formation which allowed him to essentially play in midfield but with less responsibility than in a rigid 4-4-2 system.

He was accused of Rape, then his Dad died, I don't blame the lad. He's been class since we got him.

I think people are harsh on Reyes myself, but I guess it's understandable given the price tag. I think he's really starting to come into his own now, and while he never quite managed to be the goal-scoring machine I think most people were hoping for, he fits right into to place on the left wing nowadays imo, where he's learnt to link up well with both Henry in front of him and Cole/Clichy/Cygan/Everbody and his dog/Flamini behind him. Although partly due to a real drop in form by both Freddie and Bob, Jose has been our best winger all season.

As for looking through the archives, it's depressing that I've only got about 5 posts in there, and I've bloody been on these forums for years! :D

Rather worryingly though, one of my posts is complimenting O'Shea, and it's scary how many people thought he was/would be absolute class a few years bak. Ah, hindsight eh? Almost as good as Arsenal's "quality" subs bench from a few years back:

Funny how times change. All gone, except for Defensive Legend Pascal Cygan, who just won't go. :p

EDIT: I miss Liverpool-bashing, why did they have to go and win something decent:

I wouldn't put Reyes anywhere near Ronaldo. He had a rough couple of months with his dad dying and the rape accusation, but he's got his head sorted now. I truly believe if United can keep him at the club we may just have the 2 best players in the world in our team with hima and Rooney in about 3 or four years time.
