As many monitors as possible: Dell 620 MT

Hi there,

I'm not very hardware savvy at all so if anyone could guide me here, much appreciated:

The situation is: I own a Dell Inspiron 620 MT, specs as below:

Inspiron 620 MT : Intel Core i5-2320 Processor (3.0GHz, 6MB)
Memory : 4096MB (2x2048) DDR3 Dual Channel
Graphics : 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6450

Currently running two of these:
S2330MX 23" WIDESCREEN Ultra-slim WLED TFT MONITOR

But I would like to add more. How viable is this?

I believe I need to install a second graphics card, but am not sure if this machine has the capacity to take it. Also , might there be power & cooling issues to resolve?

Thanks for advice from any Inspiron owners

Will post the rest of the specs ASAP.

Thanks for reply.

Would clarify though that each display must be independent, i.e. not just a mirror of another.

My research indicates eyeFinity technology allows one AMD GPU to produce 6 independent displays.

But also my research indicators splitter cables only produce identical displays?
"Unfortunately a splitter will just mirror the display on 2 monitors."

Will continue the googling

eyeFinity technology allows one AMD GPU to produce UPTO 6 independent displays.

It depends on your GPU.

okay so after thinking it over, I am willing to go with 3 monitors off the inspiron.

So far I have 2 x dell s2330mx monitors. For consistency I will buy a third.

But i hit some further technical issues. Why must we have so many different types of ports and cables? Look forward to the day we have one size fits all, for everything.

so this is the problem.
Something about eyefinity requiring at least one screen to run off "displayport" - tbh had never even heard of a Displayport. But my monitors do not 'have them' and my GPU doesn't 'have one'

What would you do?

thanks again for help, OCUK

God damn. Further research indicates if the card does not have a displayport, it cannot support eyefinity.

The specs out of AMD i find misleading about the 6450.

that's the solution, i'd say.

" Sapphire FleX Technology simplifies AMD’s multi-monitor Eyefinity solution by allowing 3 X DVI monitors to be connected to the board ‘out of the box’ WITHOUTthe requirement for expensive DisplayPort monitors or Active Adapters."
