AS2 vs AS5

I'm going to be building my new system tonight, so long as the nice people at city link turn up

anyways, i realised i forgot to add some AS5 to my order, although i do have an old tube of AS2 in my parts box - does anyone reckon I'd see a major loss in heat transfer using this instead?

It's going to be used on a 4400 and XP90-C if it makes any difference.

At most, in my opinion, you're going to see a difference of tenths at most of a degree. With a well-mounted heatsink, the thermal interface material (TIM) should be so sparse that any difference between materials should make no measurable difference.

(Waits for the posts from the people claiming huge variances when they changed TIM who haven't considered whether all the other variables were identical,

At best be a degree. Only reason some people will get better results after changing tin is that a lot of dust had been cleaned away and a better contact has been made when putting the heatsink on

Shouldn't think there would be a problem. Check that the silver is still in suspension though, as after a while in the tube, it will separate out.

Yep... AS2 was dreadful for separating. Splurge some onto some shiny card and give it a mix with a screwdriver first... assuming it hasn't completely dried out in the tube...
