Hello all the other week i had my shed roof smashed (thanks croydon council) so phoned my insurance company who came round the other day to take a sample and they have just phoned to say yes it is asbestos so a clean up team will be coming round plus put a new roof on

problem is they have asked me to clean the shed out so the clean up team can get in plus put the new roof on, well i'm not sure if i'm being stupid but i don't really want to go anywhere near the inside of my shed right now as theres dust everywhere plus i don't own a world war 2 gas mask

I took down a lean-to roof of asbestos, just wear a normal dust mask and hold you breath as well if needed and clear up in short bursts. But as said above the particles in the open air would have gone.If you do see a dust patch spray it with water to keep the dust down. The roofing sheets of asbestos contain not so much asbestos as you might think more a cement mix. The worst stuff is blue asbestos used mainly in under ground pipes etc, but can also be used in roofing sometimes, so its best to know what your dealing with as well.

I'd leave it if it's still dusty.

Obviously if you aren't tearing up fibres, and you wear the appropriate face mask you should be alright but is it worth the health risk? probably not.

They've probably told you to clear the area so they have access inside. Providing you haven't cluttered the doorway then leave the cleanup to the professionals tbh.

is it the nasty blue stuff or just the stuff that looks like concrete?
Ive (possibly stupidly) risked my ealth why working in an asbestos shed and so far havnt come across in problems.

Or if you dont mind things getting wet get the hose to spray it so the dust is settled.

Yet all these people saying "let the dust rest it will be fine" why take the risk when it is the insurance company who should be sorting it out.

For a start I wouldn't go in because it has taken structural damage to the roof, with the addition of asbestos why bother?

Somethings in life are worth taking risks for, to avoid a stern phone call to the insurance company to tell them to jog on isn't one :)

It really isn't worth taking a risk with this kind of thing. Phone the insurance company and explain you can't clear the shed because of the dust.

They came round today to remove the roof and the two blokes at first weren't going to do it as the shed hadn't been cleared and when i told them i wasn't going anywhere near it one of them turned round and said it's not that bad and do you think i would stand in your shed if it was that bad plus they wasn't going to put a temporary roof on

He then made a phone call to his office as he wasn't happy and i was but to tell him to .... off when his office phoned me and after a few words they said not to worry as he had been told to do the job :)

Funny thing is before they did anything they were looking like they were off to a rave with full face masks and they experted me to clear the shed with something from homebase

Did have some extra milk and bacon in to make some coffee and sandwich's but that stayed in the fridge

So all done and tomorrow the new roof go's on

any P3 rated mask and some disposable overalls would've been fine, which you could've got from homebase.

very naive if you expect people who do the job day in and day out turning up in such kit though, it's costly but allows them to reuse it. you needed it for a one off, so no point spending that amount of money!

No it was me being funny :D

you can get a asbestos mask from a lot of hardware retailers, (they are the ones with a blue circle on the cartridge)
