ASDA Petrol... thoughts?

£70 a month a year ago used to get me to work and back but I filled my car up with £80 two weeks ago and I needed to fill up again today. Thing is, where I work now is a shorter distance to the place I worked at a year ago. I know that petrol prices have gone up but does anyone feel like ASDA petrol isn't the best? I filled up at a BP garage today (2p a litre more expensive than ASDA) but I feel that I get more for my money if that makes sense? I honestly think it's better 'quality' but someone told me that ASDA use the same petrol as BP.

Thoughts?

You dont measure fuel used in terms of value you measure it in volume otherwise the figures you get are not comparative between years given the fluctuating price of fuel.

I heard ASDA buy there fuel from BP

I run all diesel cars on asda/tesco diesel dont notice a difference over shell/bp, Even run the M5 on tesco 99 ron

I used some ASDA juice a while ago and it sure seemed like it was leaking out the rate at which it went...

This is by no means scientific or even close to any sort of test obviously but I generally just use BP as I pass their stations the most.

Petrol is petrol is petrol, makes zero difference where you get it. I use asda petrol because they are cheap and have pay&pump.
I use 99ron in the 300zx because it is a JDM model with boost up and the ECU isn't clever enough to adapt to 95. It's also my opinion that high octane is a waste of your money if your engine won't eat itself without it, this is almost all cars.

In answer to your question no, all petrol is not the same. But aside from random forum anecdotal evidence I have not yet seen anything which actually explains the differences between the additives/composition of different retailers and what effect these things have on the running of various types of engines. It would be a worthwhile investigation imo.

My brother swears his engine stalls more often on supermarket fuel, but then he has a Peugeot 107 and puts V-Power in it so I tend not to listen.

Anything changed in your car recently? I have the opposite "problem" - my fuel now lasts an extra 80 miles. Recently messed about with the timing of the cambelt and general servicing, the fuel in my car lasts a lot longer now.

Sounds like you successfully serviced a car in need of a service ;)

It honestly was given a service just before Christmas and then another 6 months before that around June. It is always, very consistently to the mile on the amount of fuel I put in.

What did you do regarding the timing? Advancing it could in theory give you increased economy at a steady state throttle opening, but I would have thought you would notice a problem at higher rpm/load.

I had the issue in June whereby the car had lost a lot of power due to the timing being off, so altered it in June and replaced it at Christmas and I was just checking it again a couple of weeks ago. I did advance it and seems better than it's ever been, high rpm seem completely fine also.

What the OP mentioned though, I've always used different petrol stations and, as I said previously it is always consistently to the mile wherever I fill up :) Even now with the increased economy, it's still to the mile, albeit a higher one.

I live within 1.5 miles of both a Shell and an ASDA and use both for fuel regularly. I've noticed absolutely no difference in terms of performance or economy between the two.

I buy fuel from supermarkets but there is a BP garage in the motorway services near my office and their fuel does seem to go further if I'm caught short and forced to get fuel there.

£1.49 per litre might make me subconsciously loath to put my foot down though :p

Going off the adaptation values from my ecu asda unleaded is worse than Sainsbury's super but I can't tell the difference when driving and the average mpg over the tank isn't significant. I've had similar results with other super.
