'ASDA's new budget range

I wanted to say the ingredients must be trash but they look okay.

Except the 'ham' Pork (74%), Water, Salt, Dextrose, Stabiliser (Triphosphates), Antioxidant (Sodium Ascorbate), Preservative (Sodium Nitrite)

And the sausages Pork (42%), Water, Fortified Wheat Flour [Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin (B3), Thiamin (B1)], Pork Rind, Pork Fat, Dextrose (contains Sulphites), Salt, Spices [Ginger, Nutmeg, White Pepper, Cardamom, Mace], Emulsifier (Diphosphates), Yeast Extract, Preservative (Sodium Sulphite), Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid), Pepper Extract, Sage Extract, Sausage Casing [Beef Protein, Cellulose]

Nitrites in bacon are par for the course unless you have (Mps) Pattersons no nitrite Naked bacon, apparently just as carcinogenic.

packaging is a bit gaudy though - yellow peril, yellow star ... and all those connotations, comes to mind,
albeit sainsbury do use yellow tickets on their reduced items too, how did that start.

I think the marketting company that recommended that branding will get the bullet though.

They’re probably all made in the same factory anyway.

This kind of reassurance means nothing without knowing details.

I would normally expect the equipment to be the same, the staff to be the same... but they'll be changing the spec and ingredients... Like any factory that manufactures for multiple customers.

Yeah, same factory means zilch. The Recipe is still cut down to a more budget friendly level. Much less meat in sausages being a prime example, and more flavour enhancers (chemicals) to improve the taste. Often more salt for the same reason.

Do you think it's possible Sainsbury's just use yellow tickets so they're easy for customers to spot?

Also weren't the Sainsbury's Jewish?

Not sure what the fuss is about here. Isn't the ASDA Essentials range just a gaudy rebranding of their Smartprice range, with no evidence that the products are cheaper or better?

As ever check the ingredients and manage your expectations. Some budget brand stuff is alright but some of it is hideous.

Hurts you're eyes looking for it
I suspect they replaced the actual chicken with "chicken flavouring"

didn't the chunky ones used to have big pieces of chicken? like proper chunks..

in the last ones I bought they barely even had any pieces of potato or carrots in them, may as well have been a cuppa soup....
