ADSL router, no ethernet, USB work? (BT)

a friend of mine has BT modem, connected via USB (on PC), they now have laptop and want wireless network at home

if they buy adsl router, will they need to buy a wireless card for their PC? or can the usb cable still be connected and still work?

because they dont' have an ethernet card in their PC

thanks a lot

You'll not be able to use USB, the router will only present the network connection as ethernet or wireless. So you're basically looking at fitting a wireless or ethernet card to the PC.

Obviously wireless is the tidy option but since you must already be within striking distance of the phone socket an ethernet card is probably a viable option and just stick the router wherever the USB modem currently is. My preference would be to go with an ethernet card for the PC, setting up the wireless a lot easier if you do it from a wired connection.

ok thanks mate

got to spend £60 then, d-link router and usb

i'd rather not get the ethernet because opening their PC will void their insurance

sucks, no idea why they got insurance lol
