In all honesty, is there a plumber anywhere in this world that doesn’t take the ****? They bend you over a barrel because they're needed and you can’t do it (Gas anyway)
Yeah, gotta try and learn these things yourself.
I am going to replace a tap this week, I do electrics even though you are not supposed to. Electrics I am fine with, done loads, plumbing I am less experienced at, only because I have never needed to do it myself, but I have started doing a few things more recently.
Specifically with plumming, outside of heating systems anyway, just fit isolating valves before every tap, toilet etc. Then if you ever need to do something, you can simple close that without having to shut the water off to your whole house, plus if you screw it up, it just means whatever it is, the tap or whatever, will be out of commission until you sort it, just means no rush, no need for a plumber. Fortunately the house has more than one toilet.
Most of these things are not hard, but, there is a certain challenge in doing something you have never done before without being shown for the first time, but you find once you start doing a few of these things, they tend to just be a variation of the same thing.
I do need to get myself a faucet wrench today though.
