Hi all, I'm currently using Biostar TA790GX A3+..
I'm facing overheating northbridge temperature, it's about 56C on idle...
Did anyone using 790GX board ever have the same problems?
Should I use any additional chipset cooler??

Point a fan at it maybe?
Well, the position of the northbridge is between my gpu and large processor heatsink, Xigmatek Achilles.. I've read some article that told us to stick a fan on it, but I think it won't fit..
If U mean to use the side panel fan as intake, I've done it, but it doesn't blow towards the northbridge directly.

Hmmm how do you know your northbridge temp.?
I'm using HW monitor..

Thanks for the quick replies..
ahh ok, what case do you have mate.?
I'm currently using Coolermaster Storm Scout, everything runs cool, except for the northbrige and my 4870..

You could use something like a Antec spot cool or a Zalman fan bracket to mount a fan. Failing that would a 40mm fan fit on it?
I've tried searching for this product here, but I can't find it yet..
Fitting a 40mm fan seems to be a good idea, but the 40 mm fan would touch the 4870, is it okay? I mean 4870 is so hot, would it get the plastic fan melt?

Just had a look at a piccy of your board and it does look a little tight on space between the GFX card slot and cpu socket. I would be tempted to change the cooler to one of the Thermalright ones.

Thanks dude.. What is the exact type?
I've also been looking for thermalright HR-05 SLI/IFX, but I'm wondering whether it will fit on my board, because I'm also using a large processor cooler..
Here is a snap of my case before I move my 4870 to the upper PCIex slot (To improve the gpu cooling).. Now, its even less space left there..

The normal HR-05/HR-05 IFX should fit. On Thermalrights website it definately fits Asus and Gigabyte 790FX boards. See here. You would'nt need a fan on it either as the way your cpu heatsink is orientated it should pull the air through it.

The Noctua NC-U6 might fit as well although they are quite difficult to get hold of these days.

What about strapping a tiny 4 or 6cm fan to it via zip-ties?

I can see you dont have much space there, but the fan doesnt need to be positioned exactly - I cant think of another solution unless you change the 'sink though.

I hardlt find any 4cm fan here.. I just got 5 cm fan... I'll try to zip ties it soon...

You could try re applying with good thermal paste,ie arctic silver 5 etc, made about 5 degrees difference on my msi board
