If you believe you are insured but your vehicle is not appearing on the MID you must contact your insurance provider to submit your policy detail immediately. askMID cannot change these details.

If you do not have vehicle insurance, you must contact an insurance provider to purchase a valid motor insurance policy.

It is a legal requirement (as of 2011) for vehicle keepers to be covered by insurance at all times unless the vehicle is declared off-road (SORN). (LINK)
The web-site then goes on to warn:
If your vehicle details are not on the MID you are at risk of being fined and facing court prosecution. You may also be stopped by the Police and have your vehicle impounded, and possibly disposed of, if proof of insurace cannot be provided.
However, even if you have proof of insurance, you cannot change the DVLA details, only your incompetent insurer can do that.

How about you fine the sodding insurer you morons?

The insurer in question here is Aviva.

... It is not saying people with insured cars not showing on ask mid get fined. ...
Accuracy or comprehension not your strong suit . . . or both?

I think that you should go back and read again:.
If your vehicle details are not on the MID you are at risk of being fined and facing court prosecution.
That may not be what will happen but it certainly says that it could be.

:p

Long-winded red herring thrown back . . .
So, I was 100% correct in what I said then?

Meanwhile, back to the original suggestion, "Why don't the DVLA fine the incompetent sodding insurers for providing incomplete and/or incorrect information?"

Why would you get fined if you are insured, regardless of what that site says???
Indeed. On the other hand, Why don't the DVLA fine the incompetent sodding insurers for providing incomplete and/or incorrect information?

You clearly thought the fine was for non-appearance on AskMID - otherwise why suggest the insurer was fined as an alternative?
That may be what you thought I thought, it isn't what I wrote so perhaps mind-reading isn't your strong suit either.

Incidentally, where exactly did I suggest that the insurer should be fined as an "alternative"?

ps - "When in a hole, stop digging." :p

The reason there is no punishment on the insurers for not keeping the MID upto date is that it's not a legally binding site. ...
Thank you; I didn't realise that, I was under the impression that it was.

... To summarise: If you have valid car insurance and can prove it with a cover note, you have nothing to worry about.
Excellent, so I'm laughing then :D
