Hi
I have the following hardrware

dfi rs482 infinity
opteron 165
geil dual 512 ddr400
Aspire q pack case

got it all built last week and noticed the stock psu is a little bit noisey
coming from an antec aria which was wispher quiet

i would like to change the psu for something a bit quieter :)

has anybody replaced there stock psu allready and what have they used?

i had an old antec that came out of a sonnata and that looked about the right size unfortunatley it had blown up in the sonata

Hi deathwish

How quiet would u say the seasonic is?

in my last full tower rig i had an antec fanless psu which was very very quiet

want the aspire to be nice and quiet :)

Hi mate,

I consider it to be very quiet, usually spins the fan at a low 700rpm unless the load on it increases. I have also installed a Zalman CPU cooler and an Arctic Cooler on the ATi gfx so my system is pretty quiet :)

Deathwish after u fitted the seasonic psu where was the fan on it in relation to the case?

was it drawing air out of the case or blowing down inside the case?

my thermaltake variable fan has arrived today so ill fit that later and report back if temps drop

I just replaced the fan in the stock psu with an ultra quiet one, made a huge difference. Bit of a pain in the butt, but worth it. Graphics temp went up slightly, but not a huge difference.

IIRC the fan sucks the air from the case and blows it out the back of the PSU. Not that 700rpm does much sucking and blowing however ;)

Orifice, what size is the fan 80mm? Might mod the one I have here and put it to use in a HTPC project.

bit annoyed

fitted my new thermal take 120mm fan and thought i would be able to adjust the rpm using speedfan unfortunately speed fan wont let me change the rpm on any of the fans :(

so i then purchased an inline fan speed controller that i thought would let me adjust the rpm of the fan :( still no joy

maybe its the dfi board i dont know but even bypassing the board and using the fan controller i still cant lower the case fan

at the moment i have a nice cool system with a noisey case fan running at full pelt and for me noise is my biggest bugbear
