Have the above and its not seeing my sata hdd in the bios. Have changed the bios to non-raid etc but it just wont pick it up. I have tested the hdd on another machine and it works fine - any ideas?

Bios is P1.60

doesn't matter, SATA II drives with lower they're transfer speeds to SATA I, so they are fully backwards compatable

another question, I am trying to install vista but keep getting a read error when its expanding files, it goes through the setup until the expanding files then stops, - is the board and chip (P4 506, 2.66Ghz) compatible?

no idea, how do I tell?
There will be a block of jumper pins on the back of the drive near the power connector. Google your drive's model number and go to the manufacturer's website to see the jumper settings. The tiny plastic speed limiter jumper is normally 'on' (limiting to SATA-1 1.5Gb/s) from the factory.

finally got it working, cheers for all the help - it seems that vista took 5 hours to install - looks like it hangs but if you leave it overnight then it works!

Thanks all.
