sorry very simple question i know - are there any LED's on the board that light up when it powers on?

background
i've been messing around trying to set up a new comp, when i set it all up and power on, the monitor stays blank.

i've tested different ram, gfx cards, hard drives and still the same... all the cables are connected up correctly, the cmos is set to default

there are no extra pci slots in use, cd drives or anything else not needed for a clean install

that leaves the mobo or CPU causing the problem, neither o which i can test in another comp... the mobo doesn't light up and since it uses heat sinks instead of fans i can't tell if it's actually working, hence my question

other than that I'll start from scratch tomorrow and send OC a webnote regarding rma if i don't get anywhere... any suggestions would be most appreciated, i'm gonna hit the sack

checking standoffs under board ie all needed in place and no extra ones left in ! i will re-check this tonight when i re-install from scratch

attach a fan to the case fan header to test for board power OR

attach a keyboard or usb device to test for board power

i have done this and the board had power

checked any auilliary power plugs inserted (4 pin 12V) checked and power was in

double checked the leads to the pins for power and reset headers are OK i ended up taking them all out - i was running out of ideas - and just used the 'power' lead

cpu fan plugged in ? yes it spins up

has the power supply been used previusly? no, but since everything spins up i was assuming it was the mobo or CPU at fault

i am about to take it all apart, acrtic silver it up and try again, i will let you know how it goes, thanks again for the help

the powersupply is the 450W that comes with the Antec Sonata case... I've just rebuilt everything and it turns out the PSU fan doesn't spin up

so to recap, everything is fine as far as i can tell, i've even tried shorting the cmos, the mobo is currently out of the case on it's box so... my problem is the monitor is blank and the only weird thing is the PSU fan doesn't spin up although the case LED's are on and the CPU fan spins

any suggestions?, i'm starting to worry

well i tried another PSU and although the fan spun up the monitor was still blank... wasn't aware any PSU's wouldn't work with the board, it has all the required slots

the mobo has some of white residue on the back, namely in areas where the board seems to have a crease in it, i think i'm gonna send the mobo back. and since it's caused me so much hassle i might change the board to a proper PCI-e board instead of having another go with the same type of board

2 nights i've been trying to get it to work now lol, not pleased

on further reading, it can't be an issue with the PSU and mobo not being compatible, people on this board - namely in the 939 asrock thread - have the two working together fine

looks like the mobo is dodgy, i can't imagine it's the CPU anyway
