ASRock A75M-HVS - No Onboard Video Output - Am I missing something?

I recently purchased an ASRock A75M-HVS Motherboard and set it up as part of a new build.

The problem is I’m not getting any signal out of the onboard VGA port, however when I plugged in an independent graphics card, the output on the graphics card worked first time.

I just assumed this was down to a faulty VGA port on this particular motherboard unit.

However, I got a replacement unit, set that up, but the new board has exactly the same problem!

Perhaps I’m just unlucky and have had two faulty units in a row, but before I order another replacement I wanted to consult the good people of this forum to see if I’ve made any glaring oversights.

Can anyone think why the onboard VGA output might be de-activated?

Also, In case you’re wondering why I don’t just leave the graphics card in the machine – I need it for another machine!

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Best wishes,
J

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Firstly please remove the name of the competitor from your posts.

Quoting the names of competitors to OcUK isn't allowed on the forum.

Are you using a processor with an integrated GPU?

Check the CPU support list here.

Some supported processors don't have an integrated GPU so you won't be able to use the motheboard's output with one of them installed.

How are you connecting the motherboard's output to the monitor? Just a VGA to VGA cable?

Are you able to try the HDMI connector?

Hi Surveyor,

Thanks for the welcome and prompt response!

Sorry about the inclusion of a competitor in my post – too embroiled with my own issue to notice that in the rules. Apologies – it has been removed!!

Anyway, you’ve hit the nail on the head! I’ve installed an ‘AMD Athlon II x4 631 2.60GHz’, which doesn’t appear on the list. I’ve never considered this before. A lesson learned!

Yes, it was a VGA to VGA lead.

I could check the HDMI connector, but I assume this is going to be exactly the same because of the lack of integrated GPU.

The only reason I wanted to check the onboard VGA, was to test it out whilst playing a Blu-Ray movie on the machine. When I tried playing a movie using the graphics card (an old Nvidia Quadro FX550 PCI-E 128MB), the picture had significant judder/lag. However, the same card in another machine has no judder issues. I know the Quadro FX550 card is pretty old now, but I can’t understand why there is judder in this machine, but not in the other. Perhaps it’s time to splash out on a more up to date card?!
