Wasn't sure where to post, so many options and its a bit of cpu, gpu and motherboard but stick it in CPU and GPU just in case it is helpful to anybody I guess. I only realised this tonight when browsing around I saw a beta bios with re-bar support for my x399 Taichi.

Flashed the bios and enabled rebar:

in windows rebar enabled 1950x/6800xt, and yes i'm running max undervolt/memory overclock and 1100 core clock because it mines while im not gaming:

Thank you ASRock. Still some life in my little 1st gen yet.

ASRock are generally pretty good about supporting slightly offbeat configurations. They released updates for their A320, B350 and X370 boards to support Zen 3 too, which no other company has done.

Well, good on ASRock for doing that. People say (or used to say) ASRock are the budget option. I don't think anyone can fault them now.

Unfortunately it's too little too late for me, as I've given up on Threadripper and now have high-end x570 and 16-core Ryzen sitting here ready to build when I can acquire a new GPU . The reason I've switched back to mainstream? AMD decided that the TR4 socket would only last one generation, and the next TRx4 would be premium (or the mobo manufacturers decided they would be premium). They also decided not to have a low-core-count Threadripper option at all for 2nd gen and... yes... the CPUs would ALSO be more expensive for the lowest-end Threadripper relative to 1st gen :o.

Two thousand quid just for a motherboard and CPU, and add on another £600 to fill all 8 DIMM slots with good quality B-die RAM. I'm out.
