Hi,

Ive tried to do a search and also read some other related posts but I am still unsure and need help.

I am looking for a 2x1gig memory that is capable of 250+ 1T at good timings but can do this at 2.7 Volts.

The reason is that my motherboard doesnt allow me to give more than 2.7 Volts to the memory (asrock dual Sata-II) without doing a vdimm mod (which I have not looked into properly). Currently I have normal Crucial pc3200 CAS3 1gig dual channel memory and it is very difficult to get it to be stable with okay timings at 1T even when I run them at 186Mhz with a divider.

In an ideal situation I would like to be running 1:1 1T at good timings @ 280Mhz as that is my current limit for the motherboard and cpu (opteron 146), but I know this may be difficult and based on my luck with the memory I get, but if anyone has any experience of memory modules that are able to achieve this then please post!

Cheers!

The 1T/2T issue is a problem with the ASROCK motherboard. It's odd as the memory controller is built into the CPU and the A64 CPUs can handle 2x1GB of memory at 1T

Corsair is nice ram and it should work well with your motherboard - I'd look at the Corsair 2GB DDR XMS4000PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3 (MY-094-CS). Being PC4000 it is guaranteed to run at 250MHz - not sure how much higher it'll go though (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Corsair_XMS.html)

hi,

have a look at the gskill 4000 kits, if you're asrock is on an asrock bios they u;re limited to 274 fsb max and these kits have being doing 270 from posts in this forum.

got the kit running on my asrock dual sata2 1T, but on a divider cos i've updated the bios to enable over 274 and running at 290, mem is running around 187fsb, well below its limit i know but i was just after a cheap 2gb kit and this was on "this week only" so i went for it.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

I have the OCbeta 2 bios and an fsb at 280 but my current memory is acting very wierd. I ran 7 hours of memtest+ free of errors and no lockups with the memory at about 230Mhz 3-3-3-8 2T, but in Windows random programs and background programs started to crash randomly, like explorer.exe and others.

With 1T it is memtest unstable after about 15mins even at 186Mhz 3-3-3-8, which is way below the rated pc3200 of my memory.

I was surprised it managed to be 7 hours memtest stable at 230Mhz, but I have no idea what is going on. How can it be stable like this in memtest and then cause random program crashes etc in windows?

At the moment Im looking at the G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit and also may get an OCZ memory booster with it just in case, but Im not sure if the problems Im facing already will reappear even with the new memory?

if its 2x512 sticks have u tried just one stick , and have you tried them in the different memorys sockets ?
Nope Ive not tried one stick as I thought losing out on Dual Channel and 1gig memory total doesnt justify the increased clock?

Also they are currently in slots 1 and 2 (the 2 blue ones), would it make a difference to switch to the 2 black ones?

reason for trying just 1 stick, then trying them in different slots is that you may have either a dodgy stick of memory or 1 clocks slightly better than the other.

also try running the cpu/memory on a 1/1 at 200fsb see if that performs ok.

as aj mentioned it may just be the mobo, i'm running it ok on 1T with the same bios as u.

are you using the windows version of memtest or the dos version ?

With your mobo (I have the same) there is a good Chance that whatever RAM you buy it may not be stable at 1t.

I wouldn't splash out on expensive RAM and boosters.

Just go for some Corsair/ Geil whatever and run a divider.

Running A64 systems on a divider doesn't give you a big performance hit like on a P4.

You will find most people with the Asrock are running dividers.

I have PC4400 and still need to run a divider @ 295FSB on the opty 146 I have.
