ASRock Extreme3 Gen 3 Thread

I know the 4 and 7 are the flavour of the month at the mo, but I have the 3 and was wondering if anyone else had it yet and what their experiences are?

I will be putting my system together over the coming weeks with an i5 2500k, Dark Rock Advanced cooler and 8Gb ram and hope people can share some advice on here like driver and bios updates and tips.

I went for the 3 because I am on a budget and don't need the extra bits and bobs of the 4.

What's the main differences between them, as in what's missing between the models, as I am more of a gamer which one is going to be best for gaming.

Just off the top of my head the 4 has slightly higher phase power and more sata and usb connections oh and a 3.0 USB front panel header.
I'm happy for someone to give a more comprehensive answer but for £106 I think the Extreme3 is very good value.

Hi guys, i built a system for my mate a few days ago, with the exact spec listed at the top. I am not a pro at overclocking but am having trouble getting the 2500k over 4.5ghz and its not even that stable at this. i cant find a proper vcore adjustment.

Have you tried just selecting from one of the presets (4.0-4.8GHz?) if it works then you dont have to fiddle with anything else.

Got it.
All set up with an i5 2500k, Dark Rock Advanced cooler and Zalman Z9 + case.
Using the AsRock Extreme Tuning Utility right now it is idling at 26C. Using Prime95 temps settle at 43C and 1.191v
Do these temps seem ok? This is stock by the way, will try 4.5Ghz later.

Apprently the ASRock Extreme3 Gen 3 dosent overclock well according to another forum but i cant see why not myself.

What forum is that?
I've only found one little bit about someone else talking about an extreme3 Gen3 board before. Everyone is talking about the 4 and 7 board instead.

Just done some quick playing around using the presets in the bios.
Speed Temp vCore
3.3 Stock 1.192
4.2 57C 1.368
4.4 60C 1.376
4.6 64C 1.410

CPU fan is on auto, do those temps and voltages look ok?
Have decided to stick with 4.4Ghz for the moment. Seems to be overclocking nicely as far as I can see.

I've overclocked to 4.5GHz with no problems. Temps rose, but that's to be expected.

Vcores seem quite high, I only need 1.2v @ 4.2 and 1.32v @4.6.
Temps ? Doing what ? If that's running IBT or LinX on Max then they're not bad.
