Hi,
I have just bought an Asrock Extreme4 motherboard and it is showing code error 00 which stands for 'Not Used' (lol wish it could be more descriptive). When i first booted it ,the pc semi-worked- it would work for maybe 30 minutes then of its own volition reboot. also it didnt show one of my hdds in bios or in windows 7.
However tonight it wouldnt boot at all and showed error 00. it lights up and makes a computer like quiet chugging noise but error 00 remains and the monitor will not switch on. .I have tried everything from single ram ,different slots, using internal gpu only, 1 hdd, Cmos resetting . As a last resort, i took it out of its case and put it on work surface. It booted up perfectly and i thought wonderful, sorted. However just to be safe i thought i would reboot and well what do you know, back to error 00.

Can anyone help. Lol i dont know what to do. Its staying stripped naked ,out of case until its working, if it can be made to.
Sorry forgot to mention, its a z77 board

00 means one of three things usually. Dead CPU, Warped board so CPU is not making contact with pins in socket or bent socket pins.

It is also possible you could see 00 if the 12v power connector for the CPU is not plugged in correctly, check this or indeed if you board is being shorted out in some way. Build it outside the case to make sure this is not happening. Reset bios and try boot again.

Specs

Asrock z77 extreme4 motherboard
I5 3450S processor
8gb compatible(on asrock website) Kingston DD3 Ram 2133Mhz (2x4gb)
Internal Graphics Gpu
Internal Sound
Seagate Barracuda 7200 500gb HDD SataII
LG GSAH66N Super Multi DVD Rewriter
OCZ Modxstream-pro 600W Power Supply
Hyundai N91W Widescreen Monitor

I have it set up with minimum peripherals, ie 1 stick of ram on my desk out of the tower case so 4gb and am still getting the problems.

Jfi when i had it work the one time out of case it was running windows 7. I have formatted the hard drive on another machine(775 board and q6600 processor so not board/cpu swappable) and installed windows vista64. This so i am hoping that i can eventually boot into windows vista and run cpu hot tester program which i am hoping will analyse cpu/motherboard and peripherals. Never used program before but because unsure if its cpu or motherboard problem and i dont have spares to insert/use to see which actually is faulty, need another way.(i know reply from 8pack above says cpu but googling research on asrock code00 mentions faulty mbs a lot. I am leaning towards cpu now as 8pack seems certain its usually cpu related but would like to be sure. Will this program be ok to use do you think if i can get into windows again?)

thought i would update. i didnt manage to get the analysis software going so after speaking to my dad who knows much more about pcs than me, have sent the mb back to OC for analysis. reason being if id sent the processor back and its a faulty board AND processor(caused by faulty board) ,then on receiving and testing a new processor may have ended up with another faulty processor. however i have been led to believe if its a faulty processor allready ,then it shouldnt damage a board so i have done it this way round.
sent it 48 hours delivery and received email saying its arrived and it will take 5-7 days to test. crikey, but i suppose thorough is good.

edit: scratch the 5-7 days, must be like a stock email, sent on arrival. tested and getting replaced. brilliant service.

can one of you guys confirm if a possibly faulty processor will damage a new board... just unsure whether to put my processor in this board when it arrives to test it?
