ASRock good?

Hehe! I've been trawling every forum and review site in existence for the last couple of weeks and I have pretty much ruled out X99 boards from Gigabyte, Asus, and particularly MSI.
There's always going to be the odd dodgy board from every company, but with the ASRock X99 boards my research suggests there's a very slightly higher probability that the thing will work out of the box.
Also they seem to be good from a latency perspective which is important as I'll be building this machine for audio production.

Well, build quality may be lower.
I remember one of my Z77 boards from ASRock, the connectors were crap, USB for front panel came of the board when I changed cases.
Get MSI imho if you want a nice looking board for little money.

From my personal experience Asus have been the best. Especially the software utility and drivers.
The USB 3.0 booster actually does help and fan/temp control is beautiful. However this was 3 years ago so maybe Gigabyte, MSI and Asrock have stepped their game up.

From a spec and similar price point of view, would not choose the ASRock X99 EXTREME4/3.1 over the Extreme6?

I've used ASRock boards pretty much exclusively (the exception being Intel's own boards for Thin ITX boards) over the past 5 years in anything from servers (ESX, FileServers, Routers) through to desktops. My current rig is based around Asrock Z77 OC Formula and I've had absolutely no issues with it, completely rock stable unlike the Gigabyte Z77 Sniper that it replaced that blew! It's heavily overclocked as well, running 4.6/4.8ghz dependant on the outside temperature (damn having my office in a loft conversion!)

The only thing I don't like with them: BIOS updates seem slim and the drivers are typically out of date from their website. Easy to resolve though by going direct to the manufacturer.

ASRock did at one point have an image of cheap and nasty, which they were, but they've really come a hell of a long way and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody. Several friends also run them.

Actually I'm building a new ESX server based around Avoton, using ASRock's board.

Got the Asrock X99 WS. Had some memory compatibility problems but a BIOS update sorted it and it hasn't crashed/locked up since. Nothing wrong with them, they just have a brand image problem. Overall it's a nice solid board. Had Gigabyte and ASUS boards in the past and they all had something wrong with them.

As above, I have too and they were great boards. The RMA however cannot be commented on as I have not used it.

Otherwise I would recommend Asus. Had a terrible experience with Gigabyte!

All my Z97 boards where asrock , all my am3+ board where asus and my current boards asus . Unless you need the absolute highest end feature set go with asrock . Personally I think they are very underrated and procuce very high quality hardware . I like asus , but recently had to many failures and several poor RMA experiences .

I've been using AsRock for about 3 years. It overclocks my 3570k great. My only complaint with is the BIOS fan control is a bit pants.

I have a x79 extreme 6 myself, and a few friends that run them too.
x99 E6 - 5820k
x97 E6 - 4790k
z77 E4 - 3770k
Never found any problems with them, and would buy more from asrock.
All hold fat overclocks and have been solid as a rock, excuse the pun

ASRock are making some great boards.

Z87 and Z97 OCF Great
X99 OCF great and MATX Fatality Great.

I have had no issue with high end ASRock OC boards at all.

Do you use the bios fan control much on those boards? I'm using the z77 extreme 4 and find the fan control, flakey, at best. The PWM seems to disregard settings and do it's own thing no matter what I tell it to do!
