I've just built a new computer running win xp pro on an asrock dual mobo. after installing windows, I installed the network drivers off the cd that came with the mobo.
when I try to connect to the internet (google.com) it starts to load the page very very slowly, then throws up an error. I've plugged the computer into the same router/modem as my other computer. should it just work by plugging it into the router? its that long since I set my other computer up, I can't remembered

cheers for any help

not sure, ill have a look (is it obvious in device manager) in a minute when I can get the keyboard off the other computer. when the missus has done using it. I'm having to resort to using my phone now

right click my network places, click properties

right click on the lan adaptor, click properties

double click on internet protocols tcp/ip.

hmm, that's all set ok. it seems to be connecting ok because I managed to get a search result in google, it is just that its going very, very slowly the prgress bar now is stuck on half way trying to load msn homepage.
I wonder if I need newer drivers, I seem to remember reading in a thread som3one else having problems with this lan card

ive cured it, well sort of. I dropped the connection speed down from 100 to 10 and it springs into life...
why would this happen?

thanks for the help though ironhorse

really dropping the speed down shouldnt need to be done. If you have a 100mb/s network/router switch then it should be working, have you tried to update the drivers from the asrock website ? Thats the first step I would take. Is this board a second hand motherboard? ... How about resetting the router ?

its a brand ne mobo, with the latest drivers off the website. the router/modem can handle 100 as my other computer works fine. ill try resetting the router to see,

cheers
