I've updated to the latest X470 Taichi BIOS version (3.60) and everything is fine as far as I can tell, but there's one thing I find confusing. Why do Asrock insist on using 16Mb BIOS files with this board when it has a 256Mbit (32Mb) CMOS chip? It even states the board uses a 256Mbit UEFI BIOS in the specs on their website.

They've actually removed support for some of the previous gen processors with their latest BIOS version and they state it's due to size limitations! Why can't they just use a 32Mb BIOS file size if the board already supports it?

This is what the latest BIOS description states:

1. Update AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 ABB
2. Improve Destiny2 gaming experience with Matisse CPU.

*ASRock does NOT recommend updating this BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge CPU is being used on your system.
*This BIOS does NOT support following Bristol Ridge CPU due to the limited BIOS ROM size: Athlon x4 970/950/940, A12-9800/9800E, A10-9700/9700E, A8-9600, A6-9550/9500/9500E
*Before updating this BIOS, please also read the description in previous BIOS version.

I find it a very odd decision.

Probably because they use the same BIOS (modified) for older boards such as their x470 and x370 range.

Thats what I think ASUS do. At least x470 and x370 BIOSes almost havethe same version numbers. X570 though seems to be a different branch.

That's probably true. Just seems a waste of space really and silly to cut out support for older processors (and possibly features?) when it has the space for a larger size BIOS file.
