To my amazement my Assassin's Creed 2 : Black edition came today. Am currently installing it now (will update with findings and opinion on the DRM). After my AvP3 fiasco and still having not recieved it, play.com have seriously redeemed themselves! Has anyone else recieved theirs?

:D

One word really... WOW!

Its quite a game! Runs smooth even on my old rig ([email protected], HD4870 512, 2gig ram, XP). Flow between missions is so much better than the original, as are the controls which are much easier to map; and even have default options for a 5 button mouse, which is nice i guess. Personally I kept the 2 button mouse default and changed the 'open hand' button to a thumb button on my mouse since that felt better. It doesnt feel so much of a console port this time around either... menus make more sense and yes there is a 'exit to desktop' button so no 11 step exit this time :p

The 'Ubisoft Game Launcher' (DRM) takes about 5 mins to set up but after that just runs in the background while the game runs... all the saves etc. are saved online and you dont need a disk to run the game. I've tried out the DRM by disconnecting my router whilst playing and the game either just pauses asking to connect the internet or crashes and has to ctrl+alt+del out. This might just be my rig though since it usually doesnt like alt+tabbing out of games usually :p

Will update later and will answer any questions.

Game sounds good then, really can't wait to play it, will use a 360 pad though for this i think, sit back on the sofa and play styleee.

Assassins Creed 2 is blowing my mind - it is stunning, absolutely stunning.

It is like a dream come true. They recreated renaissance Florence and it is an absolute marvel.

Playing it with the xbox 360 controller and it handles like a dream. This is a gamepad game for sure.

Main criticism of graphics so far: I really wish there was an option for even higher quality shadows - they can be quite jaggy in places, and they noticeably change with distance which is distracting.
Other than that I am very positive on the graphics. I suppose character models could have been a little better I suppose- they are no Mass Effect 2.

Great screen shots, can you do a day time screen shot of the cathedral, wanna see how it compares to my own photos of it.

I love both periods of assasins creed games, wish they would redo number 1 though with better gameplay like number 2 is ment to have.

Seriously impressed with this game! This one is so much better than the first one. The gameplay is so much more of a flow over the first. A person can lose days getting immersed in this game!

After some initial hesitation over the nazi style DRM i performed some futher tests... Since the game saves are stored online and the game requires the user to be online what happens if the game disconnects before updating the save? I found the 'Ubisoft Game Launcher' stores your save and updates the next time you play successfully online. Which is nice... I guess... any further questions over the DRM? (which is hacked so i guess it doesn't really matter :p) It is a novel way of countering piracy i must say... I thought Steam would go this way with Steam Cloud... maybe its the next step)

Any chance of letting me know where you got the Black Edition from?

Doh, how did I not see that?

Yeah, just checked the site now, it's in stock, even though the item description says sold out :P But I guess that applied for the pre-order.

Tempting... do I go 60 quid more into my OD, or wait until the student loan comes...?
