Hi
Can anyone confirm that Assassins Creed 2 has now been patched to remove the need for a constant internet connection.

I'd read that Ubisoft had considered this but it all seems to have gone quiet.

Thanks:)

The constant connection requirement has been removed for AC2, BUT you still need an internet connection to launch the game EVERY time you play. So not that much better then.

Ravenger

Where can I confirm this to be true?

I can live with a launch connection but not too keen on a permanent connection.
For £10, may as well just bite the bullet and see for my self

I found out about it from user reports on the Steam forums. There's been no official word from Ubisoft - they've been very sneaky about it. They have a habit of doing this, as they removed the DRM from Far Cry 2 but didn't tell anyone then either.

However I'd be very careful about getting the game because there seems to be a major save bug where the game's autosave will get stuck and it won't save. Users on the Steam forums have complained of losing hours of progress, and it doesn't seem to be related to the cloud saving feature.

It's a shame really, I liked the original Assassin's Creed PC game, despite its flaws, and I want to play the sequel, but I won't buy it until the online component is removed altogether, and the save issue is fixed.

Iv'e got the retail version of AC2 and never had a problems, could it be just Steam?

Possibly, but it doesn't seem to happen for everyone. It could be one of those issues like with CODBLOPS where the game works fine for some people but is broken for others for no obvious reason.
