Bought this game in the steam sale and am having a bit of an issue with it. Basically ,the framerate will be fine (well above 60) for a while until all of sudden there will be pockets on the map where the framerate will tank to like ~20fps. If i ALT-TAB out of the game and go straight back in again, the framerate will be back to normal again.

I have also noticed that GPU usage is like ~40% and drops to 25% when the framerate goes silly. I don't think it is a CPU bottleneck....

Specs: i5 2500k @4.6GHZ, 480GTX, 8GB DDR3

Anyone else had any problems?

Its a big open world, it could possibly be just loading a new area?

No i don't think it is that because the framerate will stay low in that area until i alt-tab out and back in again.

i don't know why GPU usage is so low with 8 x multisampling and 16x AF at 1920x1080

were they not poorly optimized for pc? id update all your drivers when and seen how it goes, also verify the game cache in steam properties. I have lag spikes in mass effect 2 ages ago and was my sound drivers.

All drivers are up to date.

Actually i might try the sound thing. I use an audio/interface usb sound card thing so this might be causing some issues ( it usually doesnt though).

Might try using onboard sound and see if that makes a difference. It is still perfectly playable but just a little irritating.

I've noticed this happening with TDU2 and Shogun 2, It's only started happening since I updated to the new Beta drivers. It's annoying because if I roll back drivers my Witcher 2 performance goes out the window.

Runs great on my E8500 4gz and GTX480 SE (all maxed out settings in game, and i Nvidia control panel), fps sometimes drops to 40fps, however it doesn't effect or slow down game, Gpu usage also doesn't go up to 100%.

Maybe i will try the old drivers then. Although the newer BETA drivers actually gave me a few more frames in Shogun :p Oh the joys of PC gaming! :D

Sounds like you need a fresh driver install. Completely reinstalling windows fixed the multiple driver issues that I was having - even driver sweeper didn't seem to fix it.

Only have a problem in this game so far. Everything else works perfectly. Might try rolling back to the WHQL.

I get exactly the same issue with TDU2 and NFS Shift 2.... game is running fine, gpu usage at 99%, framerate 60-120fps. Then all of a sudden on a new screen/event/whatever it will drop to say 50% gpu usage and 5-30fps. Have to alttab to fix it (sometimes the game crashes when tabbing back in).

This is on a GTX470, I was starting to think it was something to do with my overclock causing it to choke or something but clearly others have been having the same issues. Gonna give the 270.80 drivers a try.

For those looking at drivers I'm using the 275.27 drivers, on a clean Windows install (never used any other drivers).

Started the game up again this evening. Was running without a hitch. However, after alt-tabbing in and out countless times it started to do the weird framerate glitch again.

I wouldnt put it past the stupid DRM thing to be honest casuing hiccups :p

Il play it more later for a while without alt-tabbing and see if it does it all.

I found a better way than alttabbing out of TDU2 is to press shift and F1 together to put it into 3d mode, then press it again to disable and the frame rate jumps right back up. Saved me the hassle of it crashing on me all the time :)

Interestingly, i think it only happens if i keep alt tabing out of the game. Just sat back and played almost 2 hours straight and it didnt lag once. Played perfectly the whole time.

I don't know why alt-tabbing a lot upsets it but oh well.

Loving the game so far by the way. £6.80 well spent :D

Just to confirm, this is definitely an issue with continuously alt-tabbing out of the game. If the framerate glitch starts to happen i have to restart the game to fix it.

If i don't alt-tab out and back in again much or at all it plays perfectly.

Don't know why it would cause that to happen but hey, i will just have to be less distracted and actually play the game solidly rather than flit in and out every couple of minutes :p
