Cool beans, need to download the patch :)

Not exactly anything new but nice to see effects being added

Turbulence and particle effects combine to create a volumetric smoke which can be seen in pistol and musket fire, smoke bombs and chimney smoke," write Nvidia, in a description that I completely, 100% understand. "The smoke, lingers longer, has more volume, and interacts with the character and the elements, such and wind and rain. As the intensity of the weather varies, so does the interaction with the smoke."

Whatever you need to get your kicks, I guess. Let's be completely honest, though, and admit that this has no practical benefit beyond showing off.

The 700 megabyte patch is out now, and adds optional Low or High PhysX flavours. Maybe its sexy smoke will keep you distracted until the release of AC4's delayed PC version of the Freedom Cry DLC.

Batman smoke ported over to assassins creed? I wonder if the main character will now be able to pull out 20 regal king size and spark up just to see these improved smoke effects.

On a serious note for Nvidia users this can't hurt. Adding it in now for those that already completed the game might annoy some as i am not sure what the replay ability factor is like.

I wonder if this is included in the console versions or is it gpu acceleration only physx.

lol, when I read the title I must admit I did expect a little more than simply smoke. I'm only about 30% through this at the moment though, so it's all good.

I'm starting to think Nvidia would be better to have called the feature "SMiRT" :D (I mean short for Smoke+dirt, not referring to being dorkish or flirt while they smoke outside their office buildings or pubs :p)

Lol at the blatant overuse of smoke, clearly this wasn't meant to be how it looked, the original looks nicer, look how much smoke comes off that gun :p It actually looks ridiculous in this game, at least in Batman it seemed to add a nice effect, snow / smoke were subtle and decent. This looks like tacked on to an already polished / finished game..

Was thinking how good it was with all these rumors of AMD making Mantle multi-vendor and offering Freesync as LTmatt calls it :), which is brilliant for everyone, and here's Nvidia doing what they do, adding proprietary effects to a game that didn't need it. I don't think Nvidia will win any new fans pushing physx onto this game.

you also see the smoke effects when firing the cannons on the ship ..at some points i couldn't see where the other bloody ships were lol

This.

I wondered what that update was last night and how ship battles were different.

Reminds me of Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword. It worked well in that but there is maybe too much smoke in AC4. Admittedly I've never been in a broadside fight so I don't have much to go on.

They're muskets mate.

I was firing on a fort and so much smoke was around i didn't see the 3 huge attack ships off the starboard bow haha

Yep that's pretty much how it was back in the day until smokeless gunpowder was invented.

*Waits for the Uplay exclusive DLC*

I like the effects, battles are supposed to be confusing (may have rammed another pirate last night) ;)

Look at Frosty's pic, that's 6 guns, and not much smoke considering..

Now look at one gun with Physx :p

I can't stop laughing at this. It's like something from a cartoon.

That pic, plus the fact that the first sentence quoted in a PhysX thread contained the word (Batman) smoke, makes me  once again.

Try engaging your sense of humor. Read the op and count how many times the word smoke is used in the first 2 lines.

Actually, I'm still thinking will keep mt 670 for physx, and in my unbeliavable means to justify unnecessary things, I will say that this will add to the gameplay- in that you can't overuse your muskets, and have to move and think or be consumed in massive clouds of smoke!

There! See! It ADDS to the gameplay!

Maybe.

Or...

It could just be a little OTT.

NO! It's a benefit!
