Assassins Creed... quick questions

hi guys...

just started playing AC and i've got a couple of questions about it so far...

when fighting guards, i can only seem to keep pressing square and they will block most of the moves, then one will get through for the kill, seems really button bashing-like to me i'm sure i'm doing it wrong... do i learn fighting tactics later or something?

secondly, apart from being fun to climb, whats the point of the viewpoints?

You gain new skills (counter attack, combo hit etc) after you complete assassination missions. You should be able to do combo hit now.. when your blade hits theirs press attack again. If you do this 4 times you achieve an instant kill.

A couple of tips to make fighting a bit easier/more fun, get up high and throw them off the roofs, they die much easier than you do from falling. If you're on the ground, throw them onto the floor/in to a wall, switch to your hidden blade and assassinate them.

When you're in a city, the viewpoints show you the free missions in the vicinity.

one question about that tho, if i attract some (un)wanted attention, if i leg it up a wall, they can't follow, so how would i come to have a fight on a roof?

never seen guards already high up so how do they get there?

They can follow you every where

They have the same athletic abilities you do basically, can get anywhere in the game as far as i know. Also in later cities there will be guards on the rooftops.
