I'm looking for some guidance on a laptop for work.

I work in Networking but none of us are really that familiar with laptops/tablets (my colleague has a 17" laptop that lives permanently on his desk!).

I need something I can cart around between sites, perch onto of ladders filing cabinets while hooked into switches, and shove in my backpack. Ideally it will have a decent battery life and be reliable.

We have actually been given some cash to spend this year so I think I can go up to £800 (more would be taking the mick but I might be able to push it, because our excutives go through laptops, Surfaces and various Apple products like they are going out of fashion)

I don't mind swapping out the HDD for an SSD (Samsung SSD's have a lower power consumption from what I've read.)

Would a tablet with a snap-on keyboard be practical or is a 'traditional' laptop a better idea? I ask because at the moment I am using a rather wafty netbook that is fiddly to use because of it's size and has an awful battery life.

Really sorry to ask so many questions and very grateful for any assitance. :)

Not surprised you got a netbook with terrible battery life. You would had a netbook 4 years ago with all day battery like MSI Wind U160DX netbook offered 15 hours battery life or Samsung N230 netbook offered 13.8 hours battery life but unfortunately these netbooks are long gone.

I would suggest you to have a small laptop with dual batteries like Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E544 with 13.3 inch screen or E734 with 14 inch screen, when added second battery to these laptop module bay will offered you 24 hours battery life. You can find both refurnished Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E544 for £543 and Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E734 for £529, you can add SSD to it that could have 15 hours on single battery, found Fujitsu second battery cost £140.

Found Lenovo has ThinkPad T440 and X240 laptops with dual batteries last 17 hours cost £629 and £691. You can add SSD to these Lenovo laptops. :)

I was going to say the T440 also but saw some negative reviews but that E544 looks good!

Athlon, do you buy/use Fujitsu laptops? If so what's the support and build quality like?
