Hey guys,

I just decided to blow the dust off my copy of Far Cry to check out the new 1.4b HDR+AA patch for X1800/X1900 series graphics cards. I have installed all the patches, and I am using Catalyst 6.4 display driver and the Chuck patch with ATi Tray Tools to control settings.

I have antialiasing and anisotropic filtering set to application controlled, I have all the image quality settings on high quality, and I have Catalyst A.I. set to high (advanced.) For some reason though, antialiasing will not work in Far Cry if I enable HDR.

I am using the "\r_FSAA 6" and "\r_HDRRendering 7" console commands to enable these settings, and HDR activates but antialiasing does not. I also seem to be getting an odd corruption of mad geometry lines all over the place if I look at a light source (pics to follow.)

I have set my graphics card to stock voltages and clocks to test this.

Anyone have any idea what's going wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sincerely yours,
Exsomnis.

Addition #3: The game works fine when using v1.0 (i.e. no patches) with no problems at all, this leads me to believe that one of the patches is not happy with my hardware. I'm going to have to uninstall them all and install them one-by-one then do a trial run to see which one is the culprit. :(

Addition #2: This is still happening even after re-installing the game without the 1.4b patch (the one to enable HDR+AA.) This is really beginning to aggrivate me.

Addition #1: I've added screenshots of the corruption below: -

Set everythink to stock, everythink ,then try, if it still appears, use a diff set of drivers, if that dont work, then the games gone corrupt, or yer card is having a fit with it.

So far I've set my CPU back to 2.4GHz and my graphics card back to 625/750MHz, but it doesn't seem to be making a difference. :( I've already ruled out artifacting or heat with various benchmarks and stress tests, I think it's a problem with the game and its files.

I'm going to try reinstalling the game, all the patches, and my graphics drivers in a moment to see if it will make a difference. If not then I will be relying on suggestions from you bright folks, so get your thinking caps on. ;)

have you tryed it without aa?
and afterall, this is a beta patch :)
Aye, I was expecting some problems since it's a beta patch, but most beta things I've tried are at least playable. :( The antialiasing doesn't even activate, and using "\r_FSAA 0" doesn't seem to fix it. :(

I'm pretty convinced at this point that this is a driver issue or a corrupt install. Going to try reinstalling and see what happens.

Ok I just performed the following tasks in this order: -

1.) Uninstalled Far Cry and all patches via add/remove programs.

2.) Uninstalled all ATi display drivers via add/remove programs.

3.) Booted into safe-mode and ran Drivercleaner Professional for all ATi drivers.

4.) Booted back into Windows XP and re-installed ATi display drivers.
- a.) Catalyst 6.4 Display Driver.
- b.) Catalyst 6.4 WDM Integrated Driver.
- c.) Catalyst "Chuck" Patch.

5.) Defragmented my primary hard disk drive with Diskeeper Professional.

6.) Re-installed Far Cry and all patches (1.1, 1.3, 1.31, 1.33, 1.4b.)

7.) Defragmented my primary hard disk drive with Diskeeper Professional.

8.) Started up Far Cry with HDR and antialiasing off, corruption remains.

I am beginning to wonder if it's because I have the "Chuck" patch installed, because it is not a WHQL or supported driver at all. Do any of you guys with an X1*00 series graphics card play Far Cry with the 1.4b patch, and do you have the "Chuck" patch installed?

Edit: Holy crap, this thread has had over 100 views already!

I just uninstalled the 1.4b patch (for HDR+AA) and it's still giving me that odd corruption. This is beginning to get on my case very much. :(

Addition: I just uninstalled all the patches then re-installed versions 1.1, 1.3, 1.31, and 1.33 (skipping 1.2 because it was recalled and 1.32 because 1.33 includes it) and I am still getting corruption. I am going to have to try installing each patch one at a time and then doing trial runs before the next, to see which patch is causing this corruption.

Reinstall dx9
No joy. :( Also, I am having no luck with the "install a patch then test it before moving on to the next one" strategy either.

I installed patch v1.1 and didn't even load up, the game totally froze on the first loading screen with Jack holding the carbine. I installed patch v1.3 and this time the game loaded up, but on the first sewer-ish part I found myself stuck in the floor.

I gave up at that point, and I am going to leave it until tomorrow. I am open to suggestions though. :(

i installed it fine the other day.

I have the 6.4's but not the chuck patch installed. Use a 1900xt.

I'll set a restore point and try the chuck patch. brb

PCI-X bus speed is too high.

Mine did the same thing when I set PCI-X bus to 110Mhz. Back to 101Mhz and it was sweet again.
Unfortunately my PCI-E frequency is at 100MHz. :( I've never tried to increase it.

*Bangs head on desk at this game.*

Can't get both together working either. Where did you get the patch from?

I am using Omega 6.3. AA works but as soon as I enable HDR it switches off. Well as soon as I put in \r_FSAA 2 (as per instructions) AA switches off.

Did anybody get this working at all?

I had problems with the 6.4 drivers on a few games...very similar to your screen shots...and now still have the 6.3's. Have you tried going back an ATi driver release???

Ah got it to work and my, does it look good. :) Still has to be one of the best looking games out and it's 2 years old.

I ran the shortcut using the ' -DEVMODE'. Can't be exactly sure this is exactly what got it working but I know it's definitely working. I will put up a screenshot if anybody wants seeing I should really be working.
