Starting this Friday 5th April at 9pm our time, there will be a week long asteroids@home challenge. I issued this challenge over a month ago on behalf of Team OcUK in preparation for this project being added to the DC Vault, which still hasn't happened :rolleyes: but it should soon, the inclusion thread is here

The object of the challenge is simple, to score as many credits as possible in that week, so far 22 other DC teams have accepted our challenge.

The project runs on Windows and Linux, and each work unit is worth a flat 120 credits, my 4 core 3570K takes around 1hr 30mins to complete each work unit, and my 8 threaded 3770K takes just under 3 hrs to do each one.

The WUs do need to be validated by another user so I'd recommend starting earlier, or even downloading some WUs now to give your potential wingman time to crunch them.

Like I said, we, OcUK - Overclockers UK have issued this challenge, and we've had an excellent response from the other teams so I'm hoping we can put up a good show!

Why does it take longer to respond on a 3770 rather than 3570

I guess this is a CPU only challenge? I'll try and give it go I guess :)

Because of the hyperthreading, 3570 has 4 threads, 3770 has 8, although slower it does get a bit more work done .. and thanks for your support :)
 
Loaded up and crunching, 2:18 ish for 8 threads on a 3770k at 4.230 Ghz and 11.5hrs for one on my old semperon!

Seeing as Seti is down for a couple of days while they move the servers
( and on previous form their estimate of a couple of days will actually take two weeks;))

Just crunch this project as normal for team OcUK - Overclockers UK, and credit earn't between 9pm Fri 5th > 9pm Fri 12th, will add to our team score in the challenge. If you are crunching some work units now, try to dump them after 9pm tomorrow.

when it starts you'll see our position and progress in the challenge here

ok.. reason i ask is i normally F@H so the Bonic thing is pretty new to me.

Ive installed the client and set it up for the project but im not sure how to tell if its crunching under my name or anonymous?

I should say, if you complete them say by tomorrow AM, then by all means return them and crunch some more, just try to dump them after 9pm tomorrow :)
