Asthma inhaler advice

A good 2017 to you all, just asking if anyone with asthma here has had any experience switching inhalers from Symbicort to Duoresp spiromax?

My wife has been on Symbicort for quite some time and was recently switched to the Duoresp spiromax I think purely on cost savings and she thinks that's what is causing her wheezing and mucus for the past couple of weeks. She's been doctors twice and they have not picked up on it.

I'm trying not to make it a medical thread but I'd like to know if we can insist to switch back to Symbicort or is it an NHS thing or the local doctors GP surgery who decides?
 
As with any medication, you can go back to your GP and complain of side effects, and that you'd prefer to be back on the medication that you know from experience works better. Keep complaining, and you'll probably get switched back just to keep you happy.

My father-in-law had some medication upped, didn't complain about the new side-effects from a larger dose, and came very close to be killed by it (slowed his blood pressure and heart down too far, and needed an ambulance and resuscitation.)

ps I requested a switch with my GP and it was fine.

Did she specifically ask?
Has she asked to return to the old meds?

Do this first.
At your GPs.
 
I think my wife really wants to be switched back to her old inhaler which she had no problems with, so can she insist on this or will the GP surgery just dig their heels in?
 
I saw something do the rounds with friends/family on Facebook about this. The NHS have changed people's inhalers to the smaller ones due to cost. Someone ended up using a whole inhaler and still ended up in hospital as it wasn't working.

The advice was that the Dr will change the inhaler back to the original type if you ask them to as they should be aware of this issue.
