Hello fellow OC members,

I am hoping to fit a reversing camera to my Astra J GTC.
There seems to be a lot of after market kits out there which incorporate an extra wide mirror that clips over the exiting one.
It still requires power and video feed cable.
I was hoping to install a genuine Vauxhall kit into my sat Nav Navi950 Europe unit.
Are there wireless camera available as this would help with routing the video cable from the back of the car to under the dash centre consol.

Also does my Navi950 have video inputs or does the Vauxhall kit have some sort of video decoding bridge to input in to the Navi950
The power supply will be from the reversing light, the camera I will mount as per the factory fit location between the number plate lamps.
I am not sure how the camera or view on the screen changes with the guide lines when the steering wheel is rotated left or right ! ?
Is there another signal feed into the bridge model that goes under the dash !

Vauxhall UK customer services will not put me through to the technical section as I am not a dealer, so I can not ask any info from them. Main dealers do not know anything as it is a factory fit accessory !
I purchased the car as a 1 year old used stock from a main dealer. So there was no opportunity to have one retro fitted by the dealer as they just did not do it !

Also on YouTube there are lots of videos of Navi900 & Nvai950’s displaying video clips, i.e. films or music videos even while the car is moving.
Problem is none of the clips are in English and do not mention or show how you get the media files to play on the Navi950 ! ?

Any ideas please ?

It sounds like you're after the OEM look and functionality. For the least ball achy way of doing it, go to Vauxhall, give them money, and tell them to install the Vauxhall reversing camera option on your car.

Yeah, first method of attack is to see if it was a standard feature offered on cars, and look for a retrofit method..

Next is the well engineered third party interface designed to work with your existing head unit.. their are a few media interfaces developed for the Navi 950 that allow video (essentially all a camera needs) as linked above.. Depending on their complexity, on some units/cars they can talk on the vehicle bus to get the steering angle, and from that, move the lines accordingly.. but most offer fixed lines on the display which is not too bad.. I certainly don't trust the moving lines as being hyperaccurate (based on my Mazda CX-5's reverse OEM reverse camera).

The last method is the additional third party kit, which is clunky and normally means adding some extra display somewhere, which I am not a fan of.

Obviously cost is usually one of the deciding factors.. the cheapest being stick on additional tat..

I tried this approach and was told it is a factory fit only option !

I ask to see the schematics of the reversing camera kit and the main dealer did not have one. As I have mentioned before Vauxhall UK technical will not chat to me as I am not a main dealer.
They certainly do not make it easy ! !c

As my car is very wide, plus flared arches and has a relatively small rear screen it is difficult to judge or see any thing behind the car ie short concrete bollard !

Demon's makes a good point on decent third party kits. The ones I have looked at on the web do require a lot of hacking, re wiring and most of the time an additional display unit. This is usually the some sort of unit that clips over the rear view mirror. Which again needs a power supply and video cable feed in to it. Making the installation some unsightly if you can not feed and hide the cables away. The link below couls be the best option

I know this reply maybe late.

The rear camera has never been fitted to the Astra GTC from factory.

There is 2 video signals on the back of the radio.

In order for these to work with a factory or aftermarket camera it would require a VCI request.

Finding a dealer able to retrofit or even know how to request a VCI is near impossible.

I myself do do retrofits based in Bournemouth and I have full access to Vauxhall software along with a genuine GM MDI.

Another useful source which is purely Astra J/GTC (MK6) is the VXOC forum. www.vxoc.org.uk

Just fit a £15 eBay reverse sensor kit. Why do you need a camera ? If you remove the rear bumper the hole points for the sensors is marked so it's easy to fit. I find my GTC wide but when reversing I either get out and check first or open the door and hang out... lol... Can't say I have felt the need for sensors tbh....

For £150 ish quid you can have the dolphin sensors supplied and fitted which looks identical to the factory fit ones.
