Basically set off today and noticed my ABS and Traction Control lights were on.

At some traffic lights I turned off the engine and turned it back on. Everything was fine and until after 30 or so miles the lights came back on ...

Ive checked Astra Mk4 forums and people seem to think its the sensors? Does anyone know where these are? What it costs to get fixed?

Also, most importantly. Is my car safe with them on? Ive got 250 miles to do in a week and dont really want to crash because of it...

Here is a picture of the lights in the car (bad photo)

Cheers !

abs/traction sensors are on the hub. When the lights came on my mk4 astra it turned out that one of the wires from the hub had snapped. Was a easy fix as i soldered the 2 broken ends. Car is safe to drive just the abs/tc wont work

Lol you're not going to crash with no ABS or Traction just bear that in mind and take it a bit more steady, you shouldn't really be relying on them that much anyway :p

Will be a sensor of some kind though I'd wager.

I had to have both my hubs replaced a couple of years ago. From Vauxhall they were £180 a piece and they may have increased since then.

Check out www.lmfvauxhall.com as they do all genuine parts but come in a lot cheaper than Vauxhall. Service is brilliant.

Dont know anything about Vauxhalls specifically but could be something as simple as a fuse. Are the 2 systems actually working? Easy enough to test :)

Then you got stitched. They aren't handed. The 'sensible' thing to do is buy one, keep the receipt and use it to replace the other one when that breaks. That way you are only paying out £180 once. :)

To a response further up the thread, only TC light would show if the button was pressed, not TC and ABS.

reply to your message i had the same problem

Ouch

When I replaced the hubs on my mk4 astra I just got the replacemants off the bay for around £60 a corner. That would have been almost 2 years ago and I never had any issues before I sold it last year, and it's still fine today (flatmate bought it off me)

I had the same problem on my Astra before i sold it. Was just the ABS ring sensor. If you take it to a garage they should be able to get the fault code to give you a better idea of what you need to look at. Hope that helps!

as has been said, ABS Traction sensor. Common fault, in the hub. Handy tip: The hubs aren't handed, so keep the receipt. If the other side goes within 12 months, get the other for free under the 12months part warranty :)

EDIT: holy thread revival! Good to see I'm still handing out the same awesome advice though

I know they are not handed. Not entirely sure how I got stitched. Both sides went within a couple of years of each other so keeping the receipt wouldn't really have helped me.

I ordered mine from LMF and had them fitted by my mechanic so it cost me a lot less than if Vxl had fitted them.

Edit : Very old thread. Doh!
