Got bored so i went to vauxhalls website, now i do like the new astra and i like my mk4 one aswell, so maybe in a year or so, would be tempted to buy a astra vxr

because i would rather spend 20k on a VXR and not a GTI so is the 20k worth the money on a VXR? considering BMW's do nothing for me i wouldnt wanna spend 20k on one,

opinions please, and even if you are a BMW loving person, look beyond that and give me an opinion if the 20k is worth it on the VXR

cheers people :)

Ive been in one and they're nice but I wouldnt spend £20k on one. Theres a chap on the vauxhall sports car club offering 8% off a brand new one (he works at a dealers) which means you can spend the difference on a miltek exhaust and 888 remap which should give you 292ish bhp.

you would not want 292bhp going through the front wheels of a car that cannot control 240bhp.

dont spend 20k on it, buy a nicer, and cheaper focus ST. Or the gti, which will hold its value so much more than the vxr.

It's a hard one to call - they look the part and perform well but £20k for an Astra?

i no what you mean.

a work collegue spent 12k on a new fiesta zetec S and then another grand on the insurance yeh its a nice car but at the end of the day its still a 3door fiesta

gotta think, 20k on a vauxhaul?? i know id rather put the money on something which aint gonna drop like a stone in depreciation... golf gti ;) thats if you buy new of course...

Apparently its not that bad, when I convince someone I know who has done the mods to take me out i'll let you know. I didnt notice the car I went in having any trouble getting the power down but I wasn't driving so can't really comment.

He probably had the traction control on ;)

top gear had this up agains the new golf GTi and they perfered the golf as it handled better even tho the vxr had more power the torque really let the car down. U could get an R32 for <20 surely? id rather have 1 of them

lol dude have you been on their website? they START at 25k lol doubt theres any second hand ones about

What do you want the Astra for?
Wouldnt you have more fun buying something smaller like a lotus or those vauxhalls(sp?) that are suposed to be fun to drive?
How about a scoob(yes i like scoobs :D )

been thinking about the VXR myself a lot lately.

problem is the Focus ST 2.5 being in the mix. Really can't decide which is better value.

I think the Astra, while being a bit insane is definitely an amazing vehicle.

I'm a bit of an astra fan anyway so the VXR just really appeals to me right now, so I'll probably look for a good price 2nd hand.

The Astra is actualyl cheaper than the ST, and IMHO a far better looking car...

I was tempted, but I had to say to myself, at the end of the day, its an Astra......which for al long time was only Vauxhalls next model up from the bottom of the range Nova.....

Unfortunately, that puts me off, although I'd love to drive one...

The MK4 Astras used to be able to handle over 300bhp through the front wheels, although admittedly early chassis were Lotus built (designed), this is not so of the new VXR and in my opinion, the chassis is actually not quite as good.

Looks wise...stunning, I love the exhaust.

Would quite like to drive one tbh!

IIRC the older Astra GTE 16V was a bit of a nightmare for putting its power down properly.

Personally, I wouldn't buy another Vauxhall ever again. The VXR looks a nice car I must admit but I would go for the ST every time - and I don't really like Ford either.

Saw an orange 06 ST yesterday and it looked very pretty - much better presence than the VXR IMO.

I'm a Vauxhall fan but I wouldn't pay ~£20k for one, my Vectra would have been around £23kish new with the options! I waited 3-4 years and got it for less than a third of that!

Ford needed to make the new ST AWD to be honest. I think it would have had a larger impact on the market!

Torque steer pretty much sums up the Astra VXR. Its all well and good putting that much power into a car but without making it RWD / 4WD its useless. I can remember clarkson giving it some and it was pulling to the left like it was on full lock.

The Golf GTI is a much better car for the money. (safer, handles better, has more on it, looks better, will hold it value better and has that classic GTI badge).

astra vxr....worth the 20k?
nope if i spent 20k on one i would keep thinking..........
i could have had an m5, a m3, a boxster, a mustang, a......................... need i go on? or of course i could be silly and still go and blow 20k on a golf :/
let someone else take the depreciation hit tbh :)
