Astra VXR

the Renault radio + climate controls are terrible !! look like fisher price toys. I much prefer the gloss black of the sony HU in the Ford.

I can happily agree with your choice of an astra VXR, I havent driven one either but they are meant to be amazing according to www.vauxhall.com - kudos to you in advance

why is there an interior from a renault above?

Can someone post an R27 interior for comparison? I'm not the biggest fan of a Ford interior but I can't see it being hugely more boring than a Clio.

To be fair, the stock photo of the R27 below your post doesn't look that exciting, but i dunno, in real life the R27 feels a much nicer place to sit, and feels far sportier. The recaro's are absolutely gorgeous, they are pretty stiff and hug you well, the whole driving position feels like what i would expect from a hot hatch, the ST just felt like a bog standard focus when you take the loud pedal out of the equation, where as the R27 didn't, even with the engine off :p

The HU would come out and be replaced by my sony. Call me mad, but i prefer the overall driving experience, position, feel, seat etc over fancy dials and knobs. I love my old cars so im really not fussed whether i have a plastic knob or an aluminium dial. Which is why i wouldn't have any problem living with a complete stripped out car.

Then the st being so boring inside (I never really noticed how bad it is when driving) shouldn't be a problem :p

should have bought an EP3 - thats a Type R too some dumb arses lol :)
197BHP and VTEC such a beauty to drive and the interior + those seats RULE :P

So ya, i came back most excited from the least powerful car i test drove, how did that happen? :D

because we had actually already told you that and during your exposure you came round to the general pre-drive consensus :)

I'm just glad you posted first, if you had bought the vxr and then come here trying to justify how awesome it was(nt) that would have been sad. :(

especially without having anything to compare it to experience wise

I would have thought the 197 was the least powerful one you drove

I test drove a 197 and whilst it was great to drive, i just prefered the power delivery and torque of the Focus so much more. I decided that i was realistically never going to go on a track day and that i didnt want to be driving a car on the edge all the time to get some decent pulling power out of it. I was also tempted by a Type R, but again, it just didnt feel as instantly fast as the Focus.

Guess it took me some test drives to realise it was a lot of torque that i was after and not the speed that something can go around a track in :p. The ST seems to strike a good balance.

I must admit that I never drove the VXR, but that is because i don't like the look of it and was put off by the plethora of reviews that said it wasnt all that great :/.

As the day has gone on, i really think the 197 was my favourite out of them all. Like i said earlier, i need to test drive both again now that i've got over the "oooh power" phase.
