Astraweb and NZBGet - one question about threads and tweaking

Hey all,

I have recently purchased a month by month subscription to Astraweb, and I have downloaded and installed NZBGet on my server.

It's all up and running, I have my config file set-up so that its working, downloading works ok, im usually downloading a file around 1.2-1.3MB/s which is my normal download rate.

However:

1) I have used someones astraweb account before using it with grabit, and although I dont know much about it, I was able to use around 20 threads (think there is a 25 limit on Astraweb), however, on my NZBGet install every download states that there is 9 threads, is there a way to open up more? im assuming the more you open, the more of your bandwidth is going to be used.

2) Is there anything else I can do to "tweak" this to get the very best out of this (good download speeds but allow enough bandwidth left for browsing).

Any guides on tweaking will be good :)

Im only asking about NZBGet configs.

I've never used that particular client mate, so I'm afraid Google is your friend until someone else comes along. :D However, if you're getting your line max as you say there is NO point in opening more connections. Although more modern hardware has pretty much eliminated the issue, the fact remains that more threads = more overheads.

Once you have enough connections to saturate your bandwidth you reach a point of diminishing returns and can actually harm your overall performance by running more. Unless you're on 50 meg (15 connections seems best on mine), 9 connections is ample mate. :)
 
I use 10 and have 20 available, newsleecher has a good proxy client which caches stuf and increases speed + searches.
 
Might just leave it be then, as like you all said, im maxing out at the moment, probably wont benifit anymore.

Think the next thing im going to concentrate on is scripts to automate the file sorting, and I have to keep dragging, dropping, moving, deleting files, kind of gets annoying after a while.

Was just messing around :)

Usenet is very touchy, its legal boarding on illegal and as such, topics can drift the wrong way and get locked fast.
 
SABnzbd+ is awesome :)

However, as for threads - I found that even with just three I could max out my line, without being able to tell whilst browsing. More just served to slow browsing down and increase my ping times. Have a play, but don't be afraid to try a low number!

Thats one thing that hit me with Sabnzbd while its awesome and free and I rarely get any downloads that have not auto unrared to its folder I noticed I was getting more sluggish browsing... gonna try 3 threads for now ;)
