Virgin provides this service for free to thier customers with a 30 days retention. As said above, its the provider they will go after not the small fry.
And Newsgroups is far older than torrents in-terms of technology used for file sharing. If they could stop it they would have by now.

I don't think you quite understand what we're getting at. People are moving towards newsgroups because torrents are being targeted. There will become a time when newsgroups will be the next thing to be looked at, so why not just use the ssl functionality in for yourself?
Have VM increased the retention recently? It used to be 7 days.

Got a source for this info, are you sure this is for binaries groups, ISPS used to run 7 days on the bin groups and 30 on the text groups. It seems unusual that an ISP would bother to increase the level of service/retention for a service which most ISPS have been getting rid of in recent years.
