I have an Astrweb account and use Newsbin and I tested it at work and it works fine.

At home it won't connect and I can't figure out why.

Only differences are that work is xp pro on a wired network but we do have a firewall and netgear router.

Home I am using windows 7 premium 64-bit full wersion, wireless connection and a bt 2wire router. I;m not sure where the problem lies whether it's some setting I need to change in the router or in windows 7.

Anybody give me some pointers/hints as to the likely fault?

Cheers

Log into the members area at astraweb for a complete list of servers you can use, see if they make any difference.

I had a check around, and Newsbin Pro is compatible with Windows 7 x64 apparently, so that shouldn't be the problem. If you have trouble connecting to the alternate servers as suggested above, try a different program.

I use GrabIt at the moment, which has some trouble with the Astraweb SSL servers but is fine otherwise. As a last ditch also try Alt.Binz, I prefer this to GrabIt but it's not really free.

Also, you got a firewall on your W7 machine?

Sorry to bust in but I thought Alt.Binz was free?

To the OP try hard wire first and see if that works, if it does then its the wireless part thats at fault.
And Alt.Binz works in win 7

Alt.Binz is free if you don't mind using a version that's 10 releases or so out of date... 0.25 is the last free release, from mid-2007 I believe. There're much more recent versions but you have to donate (ie. pay) to get them.

Got it working (sortof)

Downloaded the 32 bit version and it works fine with nothing adjusted. 64 bit does nothing and all the error messages and the programs forum all points to the firewall yet if that was the case, surely the 32 bit version wouldn't work?
