Any one else getting slow speeds from Astraweb lately on a high speed connection 50 mbps+ ?

Speeds have been fluctuating around 4 MB - 5.5MB .. not dire speeds but makes a difference if you have a big download.

My mate gave me his newshosting account details for a months test and I entered them into my setup and its much better.. a rock solid 6 MB / 50 mbps which rarely fluctuates.

I may have to ditch Astraweb.

I used to get flucations on astraweb and went back to giganews but now its just not worth it compared to the price distance. I find it hovers around 4.5 to 6 so doesnt worry me much. But your not alone in the fluctuating astraweb

Can't say I have EVER had a problem with Astraweb, maxes out my BE connection pretty much 99.7% of the time, nice 1850KB/s average

Maybe this is a Virgin issue.

i was under the impression Virgin traffic shaped these connections between 5pm - 12am

i'm on 100mb and i've had problems with Supernews (at those times)

The issue is that your connection isn't 50mbit thus isn't pulling as much bandwidth.

I have a load balanced my Usenet over a few addresses:

I have 5 Connections going to the SSL address and 5 to the europe address. If VM limit my connection completely it wont make the slighest bit of difference, but if they limit my speed with their QoS then having two different destination addresses should help performance. Since doing this I always get 5.5MB/Sec + above all the time. I leave the 10 slots free as a just incase.

Yeah I tried that. I load balanced 20 connections 5 x 4 all different ports and servers. Gives me a good speed but not a rock solid steady 6MB/s... But its better than hitting 1 server @ 20 connections... which will cause it to fluctuate.

Newshosting doesnt seem to need so much tweaking.

Hi sithlord . You should take an other provider...astraweb is good, but you can have a better offer with an other provider...like newshosting...also they have a special unlimited deal ($8.33) cheaper than astraweb !
