Astraweb

Astraweb isnt that great anymore.. the speeds are hit and miss if it can max out my 50meg line.

I have a newshosting account and a usenetnow account (tier 1) .. Id say usenetnow has the slight edge for speeds and value for money.

Btw my astraweb account - is the worse one out of the three for speeds and will be cancelled soon (retention isnt bad better than newshosting).

Shame supernews doesn't have slightly higher rentention, its pretty awesome.. even 900 days would do.

Every other newsgroup provider I've tried there has been missing files + failed starts.

Supernews are giganews resellers, they should be good. Doubt they will increase retention as they would then cannibalise giganews sales.

I've had no issues with astraweb at all, it easily maxes my 20Mb connection and the only time I've had missing part issues was when I tried to download something that was over 1000 days old.

Edit: Although I just tried a big download to test and this afternoon it seems to have poor speed an tons of missing parts. Something wrong with astraweb servers? It was perfectly fine this morning.

Yea it got so bad with incompletes and slow speeds I switched to the cheaper Supernews and have not looked back, it's been flawless completion wise and it always maxes out my 50mb Virgin cable :)

Also been noticing a lot of incomplete files on Astraweb, thought it was just me but guess i was wrong.

Gonna give it till my current month ends then see if it's still happening if so time for a switch.

Getting incomplete and connection issues now.

Shame as I liked Astraweb's pay as you download.

http://usenet-news.net/ have block accounts too; by their own admission their website looks rubbish but they're very fast and have all the usual SSL over various ports (80, 81 etc) and offer block accounts (which are slightly cheaper than Astrawebs last time I looked).
