A while back I was looking for a wireless headset and I eventually settled on the Astro A50. My previous headset was a Creative Labs Rage 3D which broke. Alas, I had to buy my A50 directly from Astro (now Logitech) rather than OCUK. So now I've had it a while, I thought I'd share my opinion.

My hearing isn't the best. I suffer from tinnitus, so I'm not an expert audiophile by any means. So don't expect expert tone analysis.

The wireless capability is fantastic. In the past, I've damaged headsets by pulling cables etc. Audio-wise, the sound is noticeably better than the CL, playing music, watching videos, and playing games. And it's much more comfortable on the ear. Extended sessions used to get rather sweaty; now they do not. That said, the headset is only just big enough.

Where the A50 fails is the docking station, the connection between the headset and the PC. My CL headset worked flawlessly every time. With the A50, the PC too often refuses to detect the headset unless I unplug the USB cable from the docking station and reinsert it; and getting the headset to sit just right in the docking station so it recharges is very hit and miss. Fortunately the headset has a USB input so I can plug in a USB cable to recharge it directly, just like my old CL headset, so the latter is an annoyance rather than the disaster of the former. I want it to just work and it just doesn't. It is, in fact, a major embuggeration.

Call it 6/10 or 9/10 if they fix that flaw.

I currently have the Astro A50 Version 1 from a few years back...

I will need to be upgrading in a few years I suspect, Are these the V2 Astro A50's you have?

If so...

1. Does the wireless receiver/mix amp/charger dock have an AUX in port? As this is how I have my PC speakers playing to my Astro A50's currently and I would like to do that with the V2 ones now out

2. Can you still charge the headset via USB so you can use them and they can be charging at the same time?

Is there any other issues at all? Would I be happy with the new V2 if I am currently happy with the V1 Astro A50's

You can try this :

1. Scroll to the right and type 'Power Options' in the search field and click on it.
2. Click 'Change plan setting' on your chosen plan.
3. Click 'Change advanced power setting' on your chosen plan.
4. Find 'USB settings' and open.
5. Find 'USB selective suspend setting' and change it to disabled.

You using the optical in for your PC audio, or just USB?

Have you checked is the USB cable isn't damaged (wiggle it a bit see if you have disconnections).

If you take a look at their forums, you're not alone. Have you contacted Astro Gaming (forums / support ticket)?

That's interesting. If I click on Change Advance Power settings, Windows reports that it cannot retrieve them, saying "your power plan information isn't available".

The troubleshooter fixes nothing. Running powercfg -RestoreDefaultSchemes and powercfg -RestoreDefaultSchemes as admin doesn't fix it either, and I don't have a .reg file to import.
