Hi guys,

I've taken up touch rugby and we play each week on an astro turf surface (water based).

I've been told flat trainers are fine but want to check out some specialist boots to enable me to turn quicker and not end up on my back side as much in this wet weather.

Is there a big difference between a boot like this:

And a boot like this:

Definitely a big difference. Also depends on what astro turf it is you a playing on. Is it 4G or the sandy astro turf? I play on 4G and only wear astroturf trainers purely because it's not worth the risk of twisting your knee at training. There have been so many injuries on the 4G pitches just by turn in a different direction. I would use AG boots (Artificial ground) but I feel more comfortable in astro's.

Thanks. Do you know what the two different types of boot I posted are? I think you're saying go with the top one?

The surface is astro turf which is water based. Fairly short blades with no rubber or sand. It is a professional hockey pitch. Not sure if this makes it any easier to determine?

Would ordinary trainers be safer than the bottom boots?

The top ones are astro turf trainers and the bottom ones look like Artificial Ground boots. It is all personal preference but by the sounds of it you would be better off with astro turf trainers. If you were to get artificial ground boots and wear them on a hockey pitch surface it may feel like running on concrete.
