Can anyone recommend a pair of astroturf boots/trainers that have a lot of padding, and preferrably ankle support sort of built in (eg a high, stiff heel/quarter like squash shoes)? And ones that don't look too garish would be good, what happened to simple black boots!

I thought they were for indoor only? Definitely grippy enough for astro then? What are the quarters like - weak ankles are a big problem for me.

I stick to Tiempos because they're cheap, I've yet to roll my ankle in them, and they come in black and my size.

Nah, I've used them for years, plenty good enough and cheap enough that you can replace when needed.

Good enough, you don't want them to stiff or they will restrict you.

Current pair are Tiempos and I really can't get on with them. I certainly can't play without taping my ankles (this is probably a wise precaution anyway!), but I just find them damned uncomfortable.

I had a pair of adidas mundials a few years ago and they were great. Very comfortable. Can't remember what the ankle support was like though but don't remember rolling on my ankles.

Nice and soft too. You don't want any of that stiff plasticy 'leather' rubbish

Alrighty, sounds good. I think I'll give them a go, ta!

I always tape mine anyway, can be hard on the knees and ankles after a while playing on astro.

Np, I've always found them best for me and way cheaper than the specialist astro turf ones from Nike/Adidas :) If it's too wet and you're worried about slipping buy some decent moulded boots for when it's slippy.

Kangaroo leather does sound good, but too expensive for what I want really, 5 a side once a week.

assume you've already bought, but i'd add another +1 for the mundial type. I have the "team mundial" astro boot and its relatively solid through the ankle, but not as padded as a court shoe. there is also the kaiser 5 range which look the same to me except with calf leather instead of skippy.

edit: stores often carry low stocks of these so you a quick google may get a lucky clearance deal for these depending on your size.

alternatively have your jabs done and wander down to one of mike ashleys shops. terrible stock levels but usually a decent range.
