Looking to upgrade my GPU to an ASUS 1080Ti. Noticed I can get a slightly "Faster" card on the OC edition, but at an extra £30 more.

Is this small increase worth the money, or best to just stick with the Non-OC version of the same card?
I know a lot of this is marketing, so dont want to pay the extra if I wont see any real benefit from it.

Thanks

Not worth it mate. Its less than 100mhz on the core speed. You can do this yourself in 5 seconds in msi afterburner. Infact you can go a lot higher even on a lesser card. Save the cash

I own the OC version. I'd say no just oc the non of version most aftermarket 1080ti's run 2000 - 2012mhz with a manual OC

The card fans are very quiet so a big plus.

Don't buy the gigabyte gaming oc or equivalemt from other manufacturers. Fans are loud due to the heatsink being the same as the 1070/80 versions.

Buy a 1080 with a larger heatsink like the strix or aorus if you care about fan noise.

I followed a quick online guide and have mine (OC version) running at 1753. Although I'm sure I've seen it higher

What settings are you using

+50mhz core and +400 mhz memory.

Max power and unlocked voltage to max in afterburner - Google "how to unlock voltage 1080 ti afterburner " its easy.

GPU boost does the rest.

I think I'm at 70 on core and 200 on Memory
Although I'm sure I've seen it over 2000

1080Ti OC

Sorry to hijack OP, But I assume you'll want this info anyway

Not unsurprising you have sen it above 2000 must at times. Boost 3.0 means most cards, more so with solid coolers will handily to past the quoted boost clock speeds on the side of the box.

I thought the GTX1080Ti has a locked voltage. Unless you do hard mods to the card (or have the Kingpin version), changing it in Afterburner does nothing. Voltage changes through Boost 3.0.

I'm mining with it at the moment and its reporting at 2062Mhz.

100% usage and sat at 43Deg for the last 4 days

but struggles with ultra/ high in ED on VR

as long as you believe the pictures are correct on the product page then yes. They look exactly the same even the blow out view. Paying £30 for two letters on the box OC and something you could do yourself in 5 seconds.

its Marketing for the gullible uneducated masses.

Oi......easy...fella lol

Not everyone has the time to tweak their system, some just prefer plug and play, that’s why prebuilt system exist.

And no, it may take 5 seconds to key in the values, but the guarantee for stability does not come until you stress test it, which takes Minutes to hours and someone will surely pay £30 for others to do that for them and it’s naive to think that’s uneducated - it’s called opportunity cost.

P.S. personally own the non-OC Strix but I won’t look down on those who paid for the OC version because not everyone has time like myself to tweak the system.

Yeah, the gigabyte was the other card I considered. Very little in them and my 3 previous cards have all been asus. MB is also Asus, so with little to nothing in it, id get ASUS just for continuity.
Watched a few bench tests videos of various 1080ti cards and Aorus and Strix cards were near identical.
Might wait a couple of weeks and see if there are any great deals on black friday.

I nearly bought the AIO gigabyte 1080Ti

I also nearly bought a 2nd OC strix off the MM.

Life is full of what ifs and regrets.

So on to the OP buying the Strix and OC'ng.

Heard of quite a few QC issues with the gigabyte Aorus cards. Fans not having enough clearance resulting in them catching on the shroud and dvi-d ports not working at 144 hz were pretty common (recent) complaints I have seen.

If you have to stress test a 88mhz increase on an ASUS card from base and can't be bothered to tweak it then you must have money to burn and are on the wrong forum and know little about the reputation of ASUS cards. Its not a pre-built system either thats a whole other matter and the reason for it can be seen. You cant compare a £30 premium for a tiny overclock to a pre-built system.

No its not naive at all. Whats this forum called ? You do a poll on here for which card people would buy and it will be a land slide on the cheaper card. Only the uneducated would buy the more expensive card. My opinon based on experience reading what people buy on here.

You can be judgemental however you like, the premium exist for a reason, and whether you agree with other individual’s purchase choice is your perspective. But being judgemental on other’s choices without fully understanding the reason behind such choice just shows how arrogant and naive one is.
