ASUS 3070 EKWB - overclock?

Morning, is there any scope/value in overclocking this card?

It's in a full custom loop setup and temps are looking good after a couple of stress tests, etc.

Ran a heaven benchmark (is this still any good?) and it beat my lads 3070ti setup marginally, although lowest FPS on extreme was lower, max, average and overall score was higher.

Also, if it is overclocked, using afterburner I assume, can it be set to load that overclock by default or do you have to select every power up?

Thanks

Answered my own question on this. Quick google and decided on +100 clock and +1000 memory, 110% power.

heaven benchmark went from 5514 to 5862, FPS 232.7 - Min 47.7, Max 527.4

Doesn't overclock much as it's power limited. Ironically you may get higher boost clocks by undervolting a little and maxing the power limit.

That's all a bit beyond me lol. It seems massively improved at the minute with the +100, +1000. I might look into it a bit more and see if i can reliably squeeze a bit more out of it

Take a look at a couple of youtube videos on undervolting Nvidia 3xxx. Its pretty simple, not much more complex than the OC you're doing.

Thanks, will do. with the above settings I've see the below improvements jusing heaven as a benchmark. very stable and super cool. Never hurts to try squeeze a bit more out though :)

One of these was my main card until a recent upgrade, was pretty much the only card I could get in the crazy crypto boom and I had a custom loop so went with it. I was disappointed there wasn't a higher power limit for a WC card but from memory, I could get +200 or a little more on the core with undervolt and maxed power limit and it still ran 45-50C.

Spent most of its time at stock with an undervolt as it boosted well over stock at that so the extra few % wasn't really noticeable outside of a FPS counter.

Nice card, just wasn't quite enough in VR for me but for pancake 1440p plays almost everything well.

I’ve got a 3070 with a waterblock (full loop) in one of my systems. It’s a gigabyte with a bylski (sp?) block though.

Make sure you monitor the hotspot temps and cool that (if you can find it) as it will help with higher clocks. That may be of some help I hope!

I'll deffo look into undervolting then. this was the best card i could afford with the cost of the rest of the build so want to get the most out of it. no VR here, just 1440p gaming

Edit, just been reading a few threads on undervolting. Am I right in my understanding this is just to counter higher temps? I haven't gone past 40 degrees at +100, +1000 so far.

Maybe if i push to +200 on the core that might be an issue so might need undervolting there, seems reasonably straight forward.

Do you recall what you pushed memory to?

I've just had another play, without undervolting for now. pushed as far as a dare +200 core and +1050 on memory.

Heaven went up to 6023 score with avg FPS of 239.1

I installed Time Spy:

Score with initial OC (+100, +1000) - 14643

Final score with +200, +1050 - 15038 with an average GPU temp of 40 degrees

That final score, seems to put us just below the average score with same processor and a 3070ti which i think is pretty good.

Undervolting is the new overclocking. My 3070 is undervolted which not only knocked just over 100w off the power draw but lets it boost higher and for longer as well. It also has a "free" (as in no extra voltage required) memory overclock of 600mhz.
