Hi, I’m looking to buy a 3080 on release like many other people. I’ve got a Meshify C, so limited to only a few cards. If the FTW3 is a reasonable price I’ll probably go for that but I have a feeling it’s gonna be up there with the strix pricing.
The other card I’ve seen with similar dimensions is the TUF. I’m just wondering if there is an advantage of buying the OC version. I understand it will be clocked higher, but is that it ? Will it be higher binned than the standard model ?

Thanks !

Literally paying £50 more for the factory overclock. You could very likely do it yourself I expect.

IMO the better binned cards Asus have probably reserved for their Strix models.

Tuff is usually a budget tier for asus. You will find this in their laptops and motherboards at a cheaper price.

Asus higher teir is usually ROG branding. This is were you find strix, etc. Therefore, for a Tuff card the OC version should be slightly better at a slightly higher price. However, for just 30mhz for what $50 more? I find it hard to believe there is much difference. And comes off as a money grab. I would like to know the wattage of the heatsinks coolers to justify the price.

Yeah I thought this. I’ll stick to the standard one. It’s a pretty solid looking card. My alternative to the FTW3 was the ACX3 from EVGA but I noticed it’s the same size as the founders edition. I’m guessing the TUF having a longer and thicker heatsink will be an advantage for roughly the same price.

I honestly thought they had stopped this factory overclock rubbish. Fair enough having a factory overclock for all AIBs, but charging extra for a slightly higher overclock that can be done yourself so easily is a joke.

It's would be a good idea to contact asus and get information on the heat sinks used for Ampere.

shame gigabyte havent released sizing. Aorus is def out. thing is HUGE . windforce, eagle uses 90/80/90mm fan so might work along with longer warranty then Asus TUF .

Eagle and TUF both 3yrs aren't they? Think GB only offering 4yrs on the Gaming and Aorus models when registered?

I seen someone mention the sizes of the gigabyte cards on Reddit. A list of all the cards. They were pretty large. A good amount over 310mm

Clocks normally revealed right at the end . Few factors such as reviewers with the cards .
MSI once sent out cards with differing bios I believe .
Showing your hand to early to competition. EVGA has hit 2.1 overclocking but 17** boost speed out the box . Aorus could do this at default and others , if left with enough time could update bios for reviewers and download for install to update speeds

I belive this too. The Tuf and Tuf OC the I'll be literately the same chip where the OC has like +25mhz overclock that the Tuf owner could do in 5 seconds themselves.

Only the Strix will have the binned die made for overclocking

If they dont put a tiny factory OC on the card, why would anyone buy one over FE ???

One thing I am liking about the TUF cards is they have separate heat sinks for the GPU and RAM. Most others (and I've been looking at a lot) have a single plate for both. RAM would usually run cooler than the GPU so on a single heat sink the GPU heat could spread to the RAM or reduce its cooling. Separate might allow higher RAM overclocks
