Well just received this:

not as the pic on OcUK, google results bring me no closer...

New Cooler Box says: EAH4870

Anyone got any info on the cooler?
Much nicer package than the Sapphire and HIS ones, only went for this due to extra warranty, seems I got a different coole into the bargain as well.

Found this from techPowerUp!

ASUS Released Non-Reference Radeon HD 4870 with Expanded Power Circuitry
ASUS has released a non-reference version of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card. The model is called EAH 4870 D5 and it's main difference is the enhanced power circuitry. The card uses a 4 phase vGPU power circuit along with a 2 phase vMem circuit, making it similar to that of the PowerColor HD 4870 PCS+, while the reference design uses 3 + 2 phases. The PCB uses a 100% conductive polymer capacitor design. The same Qimonda memory chips as those used on reference design boards rounds up the card.

The card runs at reference speeds of 750 MHz Core / 900 MHz Memory. ASUS used its signature Glaciator Fansink cooler for the GPU, which can already be found on many of their other cards but decided to leave the memory chips without active or passive cooling. Expreview notes that the heatsink on the MOSFETs looks small and could be a cause for concern since temperatures of that zone of video cards in general could reach as high as 110 degrees Celsius. The card uses single slot expansion bracket though the card itself requires two slots worth space due to the heatsink. This release follows several other designs from the likes of Palit, PowerColor, etc., that have similar power circuitry, presumably to facilitate better overclocks though poor cooling designs implemented by these AIBs mar the effort put in to design these superior PCBs.

So basically, well done mate, be sure to post up your impressions :)

Thats my thoughts helmut,
Gonna keep an eye on temps here just in case.

Seems that side fan I was fitting as an intake maybe an exhaust now.
Even on first bootup this seems to be considerably quieter than the stock HSF

u problably won't be able to overclock it with rivatuner or ati tool :/ u will need to use asus smart doctor which isn't bad... i have 8800gt asus with the same cooler ;) temps are good but it's completely different card :)

Ehh? Of course rivatuner/atitool will clock it. I just wonder if Vmodding will be the same

There must be some other reason for that then.....they both use driver level overclocking so a small change in hardware should have no effect

Nope :p

Ive set the fan to 60% usin the asus doodah, and its like the stock fan at 30% from what I can hear, definatley quieter.

ou can all have a go at me as I have an e8400 under a TRUE and a gfx card with odd cooling and haven't even thought of clocking either yet :p

I've done a few IBT's on the CPU, giving the AS5 time to cure but temps at stock seem to be normally around 28 whilst playin about on Warhammer.

Think that gives me plenty leeway on the CPU side of things, Im having a few long gamin sessions to see wether the gfx not exhausting heat directly is gonna have an effect on the cpu in any major way.

Got 2 more ambers as intakes, need one more for TRUE and then one for the side panel on the Antec 300 and Im set.

Once it's all setup then goes with the clocking of both GFX and CPU.

One thing tho....

I dont think Warhammer is giving the pc the challenge it needs, what you guys think?

Crysis? UT? Warhead?

Warhead will definitely work the GPU :) Also good ole CoD4, GriD...etc

I'm very interested to see your max clock on the GPU because I want to know if the upgraded power design makes any difference in clocking.
