Asus 4890

Yes its to much for to little, its around the same price as the 4870 x2, but thats quite a bit faster, and the Asus 4890 you linked to is probably as quick/quicker judging by its clocks, also the 275 can be clocked to match/surpass it.

Thanks for the quick info, I am between a 275 and asus 4890. Asus is a good deal so might take that for a nice boost over my 3870XT :)
 
That asus is a very good price :o it's only 50Mhz core and 100Mhz (400Mhz) approx off the Atomic/Black Edition 4890s, for £60+ pounds less, overclock that little extra and you're smiling. The core speed is already 100Mhz faster than the ATI stock default for a 4890.

Yep! Buying pre-clocked cards ensures that you can "blame" them if it doesn't "work" and for this price is a win-win I think.

Agree totally, time is money and reading up and spending time overclocking a gpu, it's sometimes better off buying the gfx card pre done, especially if time is limited
 
That card isn't actually pre-overclocked out of the box....am I right? I thought it was designed to be, with the supplied overvolting software, but you had to do it yourself?

Yep, I googled a review earlier on, they got it to 1Ghz no sweat.
 
How hot is the card at around 30-40% speed when just playing games, not the max load temps.
Is it much louder than the ASUS EN8800GT with a modified fan?
 
275's clock easily to higher than gtx 285 speeds. Only difference then is the 448-bit to 512-bit memory bandwith. So if you want a cheap 285 and want to go nvidia get a 275.

If you want the cheapest option however the 4890 is the one.

I don't think it's even possible but if it is it will seriousely ruin the 4890's performance.

A single 4890 can run everything out at the moment with maxed settings and Crysis maxed with 4x AA without breaking a sweat at 1680x1050 (personal experience).

You will not be dissapointed with it, I can tell you that.
